The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, says the institution has purchased close to two metric tonnes of gold as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s gold reserves and improve the country’s economic resilience.

Mr Gyamfi said the acquisition formed part of GoldBod’s broader mandate to manage Ghana’s gold resources in a manner that delivers greater economic value to the country.

He said GoldBod’s activities were increasingly helping to formalise the domestic gold market while ensuring that gold produced in Ghana contributes directly to the country’s reserve accumulation efforts.

According to him, the purchase of the gold is significant because it allows Ghana to convert part of its domestic gold production into a strategic financial asset.

He said GoldBod’s interventions were also supporting the government’s broader objective of building stronger reserves and reducing the country’s vulnerability to external economic shocks.

“We have bought close to two metric tonnes of gold to support Ghana’s gold reserves,” Mr Gyamfi said.

He said the development was among the achievements recorded by GoldBod since its establishment, alongside its efforts to formalise gold trading, improve traceability, license market participants and ensure that a greater share of the value generated from Ghana’s gold remains within the economy.

Mr Gyamfi maintained that GoldBod would continue to work with relevant state institutions to strengthen Ghana’s reserve position and maximise the contribution of gold to economic stability.

He said the Board’s gold purchases demonstrated how the country could leverage its natural resources to build stronger financial buffers for the benefit of Ghanaians.
