The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has disclosed that the Bank of Ghana (BoG) has proposed to serve as the Board’s fiscal agent, but no agreement has yet been reached on the arrangement.

Mr Gyamfi said the proposal was part of discussions between the two institutions, but stressed that GoldBod had not accepted the central bank’s offer.

Speaking on JoyNews on Monday, August 10, 2026, Mr Gyamfi said GoldBod was considering the proposal as part of broader discussions on how the institution would manage its financial and foreign exchange-related operations.

“Bank of Ghana has proposed to be our fiscal agent, but we haven’t agreed,” he said.

He explained that GoldBod had developed the capacity to undertake its core operations and was no longer dependent on the Bank of Ghana to act as an intermediary to raise funds on its behalf. Mr Gyamfi said the Board had the necessary human resources and systems to manage its activities.

The GoldBod CEO said the institution’s evolving role in the gold sector required appropriate financial arrangements that would support its operations while ensuring that the interests of the state were protected.

He stressed that any future arrangement with the central bank would have to be carefully considered before GoldBod formally agrees to it.

According to him, discussions between the two institutions would continue, but the proposal should not be interpreted as an existing agreement.

Mr Gyamfi’s comments come amid discussions about the changing relationship between GoldBod and the Bank of Ghana following the end of the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.

He has previously stated that GoldBod is no longer acting as a gold-buying agent for the central bank but is responsible for buying and selling gold in Ghana and providing foreign exchange to the Bank of Ghana.

He maintained that GoldBod’s priority remained the efficient management of its mandate and ensuring that Ghana derives maximum economic benefit from its gold resources.
