So yeah, that's gas news. Okay. All right, we get it. So here's the deal. Uh, this, uh, this is 90 days of, uh, tax gas relief. And the way they're paying for it, I guess there's a $725 million, uh, uh, chunk coming out of the state surplus general revenue fund. And that's what they're going to use to cover the loss of the 38 cents per gallon gas tax. Now that's for, that's for regular drivers, 47% or 47 cents for diesel fuel. Um, and what they're saying is, is that 80 bucks over three months. That's not bad. That's not bad. But here's the thing. I find this interesting. And I'm sure there's all kinds of mechanics that are involved in this, but it won't go into effect until three days after Governor DeWine signs it. Now, we don't know if he's going to sign it today, tomorrow, if there's going to be some big ceremony, you know, who knows? But he's, he's supposed to sign it in the next few days. And then it's three more days after that is when this goes into effect. And I asked somebody in the newsroom, I'm like, well, why? Why is why does it take three days? Because as we all know, gas prices fluctuate daily, sometimes every hour, it could be minute by minute. And you just, one moment, It's this and the next moment, it's that. It changes in a snap, but this takes some time. It takes three days, which, yeah, it's kind of odd to me, but hey, look, we're going to get a little bit of relief. Now my question is, have you, a couple questions, have you cut something from your budget because of the gas prices? Are you going out less? Are you drinking less? Are you shopping on Amazon less? Are you doing something less because of the crazy gas prices? The other question is, how much do you shop around for gas? Because lots of times on the weekend when Mary and I, we go out and do our running on Saturday morning, that's usually when I put gas in my car. far. And quite often, you know, she's, she's on her phone and she's looking for the cheapest gas prices, whether it's sheets, whether it's, uh, you know, speedway or God forbid buggies, but, but you know what I'm saying? You, you, you use the app to try to find cheaper gas. And the question is, is how far out of the way will you drive to save money on gas? gas because a week or two ago, I'm pretty sure I heard somebody from channel seven. It might have been a meteorologist and I don't want to use the name because I'm not sure that this is accurate, but I've heard I heard this that they posted that they drove to Richmond, Indiana to get cheaper gas, which seems, I don't know, was it that much less? It seems like if you're you're going to drive to another state unless you live right on the border. And maybe they do. I don't, I don't, I don't know where they live. That seems a bit excessive, but I can certainly see maybe driving 15, 20 minutes out of your way. If you know you're going to save, you know, a quarter per gallon. That might be worth it. Uh, and have you changed your driving habits? We, we have because lots of times again, when Mary and I are out on the the weekends, we like to hit a number of Goodwill stores. And we kind of have this sort of this tour, you know, some, some weekends we go north and we hit all the, the, the, the stores up north, you know, Pickwa and Vandalia and Troy and places like that, a little bit out of the way, you know, a little normal of a little bit further than we normally would go, or sometimes we go go south and we hit some of the stores in maybe northern Cincinnati. We haven't been doing that. We haven't been doing that. And every time I bring it up, she's like, no, we got to, you know, and I drive an SUV. So that just sucks up more gas. So if you, if you've seen changes in your lifestyle because of the gas prices, 9379571290, we can chat about that. The other thing, speaking of money, I saw that the mega millions, somebody won a hundred thousand dollar ticket or they won a hundred thousand dollars in the mega, the mega millions thing. And my question is, in today's world, is a hundred thousand dollars life-changing? It seems like a lot. It really does. But after taxes, it's not as much. What is that? Like 60, 60, 65,000. That's a good chunk of change. But I don't know that that's really life-changing. You know, I feel like it's got to be mid-six figures, of course, and up. Then that's maybe really life-changing. Because I got to be honest, I feel like if I won 100 grand and brought home 65,000, it'd probably be gone in a year or so. You know, it's not a ton, but it's enough to have a little fun, right? Or the gas prices stay the way. We'll just use it on gas. Beaver Creek Zeke in Beaver Creek. What's going on my friend? Yeah, how you doing? Well, so they're going to lower it by 38 cents. What? Yeah, that's what the that's what the tax is. They say that the see Ohio's current gas tax is approximately 38 cents per gallon for regular fuel. Go ahead. I don't think they should I don't think they should do that. I think they should do something and set it I think they should do it by 37.9 and get rid of that point nine. Oh They're not making pennies are not making tenth of pennies. I know that is a little silly, isn't it? It's old marketing from back in the 60s. Yeah, right. Yeah, I never never understood that But I think Ohio, if they do that, they could set the standard and then it would change all over everywhere. We could be trendsetters here in the Buckeye State. There you go. All right. Have a good day. Beaver Creek, Zeke. I appreciate it. 937-957-1290. Tomorrow night, I talked about this a week or two ago. I shared this on social media and the person, I guess, who organized this, saw the post and got so excited because I mentioned him on social media and on my show. So tomorrow night, seven o'clock sharp, courthouse square downtown. There is a spank line. Now, oh, Joey, you know about this? Joey, my producer knows about this. This is a, uh, sort of a tribute to spongebob square pants where there was, there was an episode episode where they, they somehow managed to create a seven mile spank line, uh, you know, in the, uh, in the sponge bob world, right? Under the sea or whatever it is. Uh, what is bikini bottom, right? Yeah. And, uh, I saw this and I thought this is great. I absolutely love this. Now it's not going to be seven miles. There's no way. Um, but tomorrow night, if you want to get your butt spanked, you can go down to courthouse square, get on all fours and crawling under people's legs, strangers by the way, strangers and let them smack your ass. That would be a lot of fun. Now I'm not gonna do that because I've got bad knees and I'm not gonna crawl around on courthouse square. I've been to courthouse square, I'm not crawling around on courthouse square. But there are some die-hards out there that I'm sure would be He, uh, thrilled to be a part of the Dayton, Ohio spank line. Best part? There's merch available. The evening edge with Todd Holst. What do you know about it? I've been told that he's kind of odd. Locally grown. I'm a local yoga room. Seriously fun. It's a little strange, but what are we supposed to do? With both ears. I'm puzzled by the whole thing. I W-H-I-O. All right. I'm on the fun train. Excellent. The evening edge with Todd Holst. Locally grown. Seriously fun. a W-H-I-O. Back here on the evening edge, Monday through Friday, 5 to 7 live stream up on Facebook and YouTube. Of course, this is Rod Stewart and his big hit, do you think I'm sexy? Well, he announced the other day that next year is his final tour. He's done touring, he's 81. And actually, he was on tour this past summer and then That was cool, cuz he's a big soccer guy, but it made me think like which artist or band did maybe you miss out seeing? The band that I always wanted to see was the police. I loved the police and I finally got to see Sting and the guy actually got to meet him and he was really cool But I never got to see the band That's one. I wish I would have gone scene gone and seen 937 957 1290 Rick it was Carrollton. What's up, Rick? uh, talking about the $100,000. Yeah. I agree with you for the most part that it probably wouldn't be life changing, except for say an elderly couple that owed like $70,000. Oh, yeah, then I'll see there you go. Yeah. Hopefully, hopefully they'd be dead free. Yeah. That's that would, that's a good, that's a good way to put it. That would be life changing. But I think for the average person, I mean, it would certainly help in some areas. Maybe it pay off some credit cards, you know, maybe it would help pay off the mortgage or pay off some medical bills or something like that. But 100 grand after taxes, it's not going to do too much, right? And well, yeah, coincidentally, I just bought my wife a Hyundai Palisade last night. So if I could hit one like that, you can pay it off. That sounds good. Well, good luck, Rick. Play the mega millions. Maybe you'll be the next Ohio winner. live music, touring artists. Hasn't been that for a long time and I guess the county is now taking possession of it again. I guess they tried to find somebody to buy it and renovate it and do the whole thing. But either way, I've been there a couple of times for shows. I remember going to see the Indigo Girls with a girlfriend of mine at the time. And then one of my favorite rock and roll experiences was seeing the band Great White. There, this was probably, well, I could tell you exactly when it was because this is cool. There's a, there's a website called concert archives.org where you can put in a venue and you can see what artists played there. Now these are never complete, right? I mean, these are, these are additions that people have made over the years. There's probably some inaccuracies, but I'm looking at the oldest entry and that was was in March of 1915 when the New York Philharmonic came to town throughout the years. I mean, looking at this, there's been, let's see, this is great. New edition, run DMC and Shannon played there, there, Adam and the ants, BB King, Liberace in 1981. I love this. Bob Dylan, uh, Toto, George Carlin played there a number of times, Red Skelton, Billy Joel. Oh my gosh. I mean, these are legends. Miles Davis, Jackson Brown, Johnny Cash, uh, and then Great White. I got to see what was cool about that show is because I was working in radio, uh, the station I was, I was working at, we promoted that show, we got to go on the great, uh, great white rock and roll tour bus. And that's the only rock and roll tour bus I'd ever been on, or ever since. And it was just, it was a lot of fun. But, uh, the one that, uh, the one show or several shows I thought was interesting interesting is back in 1995, September 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, and October 1st. I mean, today September 30. So this is kind of an anniversary. The pointer sisters played all of those nights here in Dayton. That is crazy. But anyway, yeah, that's, I'm sure many people have great memories of uh going to Memorial Hall. Uh I gotta do this here Ron. Yes sir. Ron I'm bringing you into this because I know you like me. Are no of us fans. Absolutely. We love the king man. That's right baby. That's right. That's right. So uh what I wanted to bring you on for is uh the gist of the story. It's not there's there's kind of a sidebar to this story. story. What I saw is that a pair of Elvis's sunglasses are going on auction block. They call it the neo style eyewear. These were given to his late close friend and body guard Red West. Remember Red? Yes. Part of the Memphis mafia. Yeah. And then after Red West had the sunglasses he gifted them to a guy by the name of Charlie Hodge. Now I don't know who that that is. Maybe he was another Memphis mafia guy. He was he was the guy on stage who supplied him with the scarves and got him all his water and all that stuff on the stage. Okay. Okay. Well, then at some point after though after that guy had him, they ended up in a private collection. And now they're up on auction and they're they're estimated that they're going to fetch about $26,000. Little steep for you and me. Yeah, I'm out of that one. If we go going together. Even if we went in together, I don't think so. We could take turns wearing them every other day. That would be great. Yeah. But the side bar of this, the private collection that they're coming from, belonged to a guy by the name of Elvis Aaron Pressley, Jr. Jr. Jr. Now, I've never heard of this person. He actually, he He died in 2025, December of 2025. He claimed that he was the illegitimate son of Elvis Presley. Okay. For 35 years, this guy had been collecting and exhibiting Elvis memorabilia at the Elvis Presley Museum in Niagara Falls, Canada. Oh. A hotbed of Elvis activity. Yeah. Yeah. But I've never heard of this Elvis Aaron Pressley guy. Have you heard this story? No, I knew that there were some people, I mean, like multiple people that were out there claiming to be Elvis's kids. So this guy was born in December of 1961, December 24th, Christmas Eve. Oh, how convenient. but he was born Philip Stanick and he claimed that he was born out of an affair between Elvis Presley and actress slash showgirl Angelique Petty John and they I guess were on the set together of Blue Hawaii and Clambank. Oh really? Now, this is great. The story keeps getting weirder. After he was born, he was adopted by circus performers. Because of course he did. And grew up working as a circus clown and wild animal trainer before discovering his alleged adoption background later in life. Yes. And And then he, I guess he changed his name from Phil Stanick clown to Elvis Aaron Presley Jr. Bastard. No, I don't know. But man, this I've never heard of this guy before. I haven't either. It says his claims of being the biological son were never officially recognized by the made inconclusive. So how do, how does this guy, I mean, he's past now, right? But how, I mean, you'd have to get a DNA sample of Elvis, right? Yes, you would. Well, here's the thing. You wouldn't have to exume him. Okay. Years and years ago, when I was working on the Kent Voss show here at WHIO, we had a story, and I believe we may have interviewed the person who bought a toenail that allegedly belonged to Elvis Presley. Oh, okay. And if we could find out who that person was or where that toenail is located, I bet somewhere somewhere in the in the remains are the you know the the personal effects of Elvis Aaron Presley Jr. We might be able to find a hair brush or a comb or a used toothbrush or something that might have his DNA. Yes, something's got to be out there. And we can find out for sure if once and for all. Yeah. You got another DNA on that little toenail clipping. But that That is a crazy story, that is a crazy story. Now you wanna hear another crazy story about Elvis? I'm always ready to hear another crazy story. I don't know if I've ever told this story on the air, okay? Okay. When my mom was a young woman, she started dating a guy here locally. He was a musician, okay? His name was Don Presley. Don Presley. And he was a distant cousin of Elvis. Okay. And this was legit. Like he was like a distant, I don't know how many removed or whatever. But he was the son of maybe a brother of Vernon or something. Some crazy story. But he was a musician that toured. I've got pictures of him and my mom together. And he he looks like a rock and roller. Okay. He had the black hair I mean, yes, all the pictures back then were black and white, but it you can tell it was the black hair He had he had the duds, you know, he looked like A musician and he wanted to marry my mom really and she was like nah I could have ended up You know adopted by my mom and this Presley character, I could be doing the show as Todd Presley right here on WHI with things that just gone a little different. Now I'm glad they didn't. Okay. Yeah. I'm glad they came. They went the way they did. Right. I'm forever grateful. But you know, I was adopted. So I could have easily, I could have easily become a Presley. You could have become a part of rock and roll history. That's, that is right. That is right. By the way, I love the king, but a clam bake was a terrible movie. Yeah. Yeah, that was, that was not good. You know, I mentioned, I think it was last night or maybe the night before that my first marriage on our honeymoon, we went to Graceland. And I know I've mentioned that before. We stayed at a hotel across the street. The swimming pool was in the shape of a guitar and they had a closed circuit TV and all the, and all the rooms, nothing but Elvis Presley movies. movies, just over and over and over. And I'm pretty sure that, I mean, this was, this would have been 93. I'm pretty sure that, that somebody down in the hotel lobby at the desk, was, was putting in a new VCR tape of an Elvis movie when it would end, right? It would end, right? You got to put another one in, you know, and just around the clock, it was the Elvis channel. Oh man, yeah, I need to be that guy. Yeah, yeah, what a gig, but that was that was quite the memory It's the evening edge with Todd Holst who is this guy? Where did he come from? Maybe he stayed from the circus locally grown Seriously fun. This guy is something else. That's me. You keep us in the radio on WHio This should be fun. The evening edge with Todd Holst Locally grown seriously fun at WHio Back here on the evening edge, Monday through Friday, 5-7. You know, I just sent Ron some pictures of my mom and Don Pressley. Distant cousin of Elvis, they dated back when my mom was young. I think I'm going to have to post some pictures on my Facebook. I think people would like to see, hey, what my mom looked like when she was a young woman, and also this character, Don Pressley. I'll do that a little bit later. You know, I don't talk politics on this show Uh, because this is just supposed to be a fun show, nothing controversial or, you know, left to right or whatever. It's just a fun show. This story has to do with the politician, but the subject has to do with something that I would normally talk about. If I saw it coming from someone else, so I'm going to talk about it. So, uh, there's this, uh, Republican, uh, Senator Tommy Tuberville, who is, uh, he's, Um, I guess he's running for governor. Right. Is he running for governor? I think of, uh, Arkansas, he's a former college football coach. I would like to know if somebody is aware of a, uh, issue with our airlines and furries. Now you know who furries are, right? Furries are the people that, uh, dress up as character. Sometimes they create their own character character, and they've got these furry-like costumes, and they become intimate together when they're wearing their furry costumes, and sometimes they just go around life dressed as a furry, okay? To each their own, as my grandma would say, however, Tommy Tuberville apparently made a a Senate speech where he quote, this is what he says, many airline pilots flight attendants and air traffic controllers are furries. This is what he didn't provide any evidence other than, you know, saying that these people were furries. He's, this is a quote. When you walk onto a commercial flight, it's possible that the pilot flying your plane could have a deranged fetish of dressing up like an animal. So anybody who might know folks that work for airlines, is there a is there an issue with people who work for them being furries? Is this like some sort of underground network for furries that this is never has he has he uncovered something because of I can't think of, you know, what other profession might there be The evening edge with Todd Holst. What do you know about it? I've been told that he's kind of odd. Locally grown. I'm a local yoga room. Seriously fun. It's a little strange. But what are we supposed to do? With both ears. I'm puzzled by the whole thing. I'm W.H.I.O. I'm looking for the women by the name of Todd. He's a uncle boy. He's a clever boy. He's got the microphone. He's got all the firepower he needs and he ain't afraid to use it. He's afraid about your blood cancer. It's like Froot Loops. Okay, let's get this started. The evening edge with Todd Holst. Locally grown. Campbell from the Fairy Godmother Foundation and I learned a little bit about this group today and you're gonna love what they do. It has to do one of the things one of the many things they do is they go visit kids in the hospital with different characters like Spider-Man right and superheroes and Fairy God mothers and you know the whole deal and it just puts a smile on their on their faces their little faces and that's just awesome so she's gonna be here coming up after 6 30 on Wing It Wednesday sponsored by my USA Credit Union your best financial friend. We got some beer news. Don't you like beer? Beer Beer Beer Beer Beer Beer Beer Beer Beer Beer absorbed Beer I want some beer. It's beer. How about another beer? Ours my beer. We drink all the beer. I have respect for beer. Well, it's not just beer, it's just booze in general, but I just went with the beer open. So I saw this story a couple of days ago and I thought this was interesting because we've seen I've seen stories about how the younger generations, the gen Z, the millennials, they don't drink like the older generations used to do when that older generation was their age. And here is some proof from it of it. This is a new study from the University of Southern California. Here's what they found that heavy drinking among Americans 50 to 64. That's many of you 36% since 2018. It has gone up quite a bit. But overall, alcohol use in the United States has declined since the first time or for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, I'll tell you what, that's when a lot of people picked it back up again, 100%. Maybe you were a off and on drinker, or maybe rarely, very casual. During that pandemic, man, oh man, I know so many people who have shared that with me. I went through that myself. You know, you're stuck at home. You can't go anywhere. You're depressed. There's nothing but bad news on TV. Holy cow. Researchers analyze data from the National Health Interview Survey conducted between 2018 and 2024. And yeah, it's, it's just skyrocketed in that older age groups. But in contrast, as I just mentioned, Americans and other age groups have reduced. In a August 2026 Gallup poll, they found that only 54% of US adults now drink alcohol, tying a record low. last year's record low, Gen Z a millennial saw the largest drops with Gen Z drinking down almost 6% and millennial heavy drinking falling 17%. So the younger people are not putting the booze away. Now, is it because they are opting for a better, healthier lifestyle or is it eating gummies, and oh, by the way, they can't afford alcohol because it's expensive. It's expensive. It's an expensive habit. The study defined heavy drinking is 15 or more drinks per week or five or more in a day for men and eight or more a week or four or more in a day for women. How many out there are doing that? Raise your hand. You can't see it, but my hand is up. Lordy, researchers have not pinpointed exactly why heavy drinking is up among older adults. I think I just talked about it. I think a lot of it started in COVID.
