The United States does not intend to control funds generated by Venezuelan oil sales indefinitely, and the current mechanism is designed to ensure the money is used for the benefit of the country's people, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said following a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"And this is not forever, right? Eventually, you know, this is not the case. But what we wanted to make sure was that if we were going to release the sanctions on the sale of Venezuelan oil, the money went to benefit the Venezuelan people," Rubio said.

According to him, the funds are held separately, and requests for their use primarily relate to government expenditures, including salaries and other needs. KPMG is auditing these transactions to ensure the money does not end up in the hands of corrupt officials. Rubio promised that "all of that will be available.".
