You're most welcome along to the club scene podcast focusing on all things energy aiol and club rugby in general finals weekend is upon us and what a weekend it promises to be on this week's part will be reviewing the semi final action along with picking our best moments 2007 and our team of the Wing Mr. Morris Hartree. How are you? I'm all right, Chip. CHAIR POWELL. Um, must the, uh, the carton is going to come down. I know we take the piss and off a lot, but, uh, it's, it's still a pinch me moment. And Berkey and myself are still very jealous of the life you've lived over the last four years. So, uh, it's been an emotional couple of weeks, but, um, there's still, there's still a chance at silverware and with the sense just never know and a semi final to come on the 13th of May. So Berkey will say you probably have a flight book done for the 14th of May and if not, you should book one. but what is the what is the general feeling over there at the moment? It's not what I would have any sewing partitions or that, and there are loads of tables and sewing positions underneath them. And they didn't all they could, but the weather was just relentless. So it was, it wasn't what it could have been, but it was still incredibly poignant afternoon. I think it was a real sense of occasion up there. No, it wasn't nearly a reform, but from what I got it in forward, it was more of a sense of a party when they played Lanzone and Lanzone almost caught him but there was a real sense of occasion it was a bit more we've got a job to do where you know I wasn't just a group of people under beer on the pace like as much as it might sound like that and the crowd were unbelievable and there was a real nervous tension in the air but in a good way you know like you know when you're before a big game and you can just sense it like and looking at the body language of the players as they walked out, you know, the facial expressions, there was nerves and tension there. I love that. I love anyone who's in violence sport. Like in mass, you know what I mean? Like, you know, it was it was built into something quality and to be fair, in my opinion, it lived up to everything. It was just an exceptional occasion, first and foremost. The game itself, 18 and at half time, obviously, Terry and you will rip into that con with some or whole like deservedness? Absolutely, look, they were there in the day, and I'm like, Jesus, there must have been, there were still 2,000 people there in the piston around to see this. There's something special building in Ternor, I'm not the field, and they were actually between the crowd and the players' quality. I'm the field, like I said in commentary, about six or seven times, can I aren't doing much wrong? Now, they did make more errors than Ternor, or but that was some due to pressure. It's just no run operating on a different level. The game in the previous week and actually enough because you know, you monsters don't have to play for and kind of was a long shot that they'd get a home semi. They were incomparable, honestly incomparable. The level of physicality, the level of intensity that phase before the first time. If anyone hasn't seen the game and the YouTube tips available, go to both, is it 30, 40 minutes or so I think maybe a little bit more. Oh, they had particular phases, yeah, yeah. Yeah, like it starts with a car con line of mall, attack penalty, and then it goes to another car con mall, turn your defenders. And the ball stays in play up until the 40th minute. And it's honestly about 30, 40 phases, if not more. And it finishes with a scrum to a car con, 40 meters from their own line, a whole 90 meters away. like in turn you or I don't think they lose the collisions where they properly in it, well they lose a couple actually so kind of close. They don't give away a penalty and it's just unbelievable, the level of fitness, the level of quality of both sides of the ball and you kind of just knew when Khan didn't score there's like no there's just not there just there's the golf here. Now the golf isn't as big as it might sound and like Khan are definitely a team improving and Definitely an improved performance that last year, but they were just turn or worse, exceptional. Absolutely exceptional. They couldn't fault them. Very pragmatic. They kicked the ball a loss when it's not on the play. They don't play in the wrong areas of the field. They are a huge showing in their condition site, and they use that to their advantage to put them over the game line. They don't make any errors. Their line note is exceptional. Their front row is probably so the most underrated front row, is when we certainly don't speak when I'm sure not in our own club. Marcus Hannon, Sensational Pro. Levi Van at Hooker, hitting darts all over the place. I mean, right from the front to six, the variations and like, lab variations at Foye-Frawley, sitting guys down in the midfield. Marl D, you wonder when it had to be, skrum when it had to be, Marl attack when it had to be. And then when they get a set piece, their power play, their first-face strikes are so good and why wouldn't they be? You've got Paul Baer, you got Sean Skeen, you've got another couple of coaches, you've got Baxter, Peterson, Lester, Ken and Duney, kind of the butler, Callum Smith, you know, it's just ridiculous, the level of talents, you know, from coaches and players, and that they really put you under the cash there, and there's a sense of nervousness for the defending team and sense of excitement for them when they do have these first-class strikes because they know their scrums pretty much going to be guaranteed and their line-ups. It is very well put, we could go on all night on that, but 30 points to 12, the full-time score in Lechten's Park in 18-point winning margin for Terry Newer. We must have a word and congratulate Johnny Holland, Billy Holland, Brian Hickey, a night Canadian call for Khan on a stellar season, often the semi-finalists that lose in that sense, against, but I can't no doubt have their day to come, but I think this, I think, I think on a team coming, like, you know, the Dave Hylens and Jack Kelleherz, the own quilters, the doffees, these will all be, you know, veterans of the other league in the coming years and they had a couple of players to it and they had moments of brilliance, but they were just undone by an absolutely quality outfit that were probably under the emotional pitch. they got their emotional pitch perfect, I felt. And after the game fire, I should just say like, you know, it has been in turn orders of being massive and how you describe it. The area in front of the club was from where you go on. There must have been a thousand people there in the pouring rain. And there was a lot of emotions, friends and family, and what it meant them to get back to, because they had said, oh, we go again. And it meant a lot to everyone there, and you could move. there must have been a thousand people crammed into that area there you know some confines into commiserate with their own but tearing your supporters and family members and club members out to celebrate you know and in the absolute pouring rain. Unbelievable yeah indeed and no doubt 500 of them were there to see you as well but they were very nice to me to be fair. They will play against Clantarff the defending champions in the final Clantarff of 13 points to 12 winners over young monsters in Castle Avenue again another horrendous day weather was comfortably 2000 people in southern Castle Avenue on the Saturday and the game itself was the most tense atmosphere I've seen in an energy all early game I'm going back to almost the drawn final in in 2009 I would have a quick tap penalty to score. They were sparked into life in the kind of seven in the moment for me was when Steve Krasmey gets seen for a repeated infringement, a team offense will call us. And that just seemed to galvanize Tarf. Your monsters had a line out goes down. Mall turn over penalty from the scrum to Tarf. They kicked down the field. They get another line out to get down. And they eventually take three points and then another seven within about three or four minutes it was a heavy way boxing blow for blow the whole way until the 84 minutes. Chris Bosby was in the middle, did a very, very good job throughout the course of the game. Connor Hayes had the chance to be the hero from 55 meters, can hold his head up. A lot of people have been in his position a very, very difficult kick given the circumstances, but I just think Tarth had that winning mentality. I'd seen couple of collisions between himself and Dylan Danlin and Ben Griffin. It was like on immovable objects and unstoppable forces like Optimus Prime and other transformers sitting off each other. But I just think it's set up on Sunday, excuse me, to be an absolutely phenomenal game. I word as well on your monsters before we get to the final, Jerry. Geralt Prendergast has done a stellar job over their tree, senior cup wins, two general cups, a semi-final, another Another semi-final back in 2017, you were involved. He's taken up the Monster Academy manager's role with the pathways role as well there. So well done to him and all is done for the energy all earned in league on that front. But in terms of your monster season, near one point, the difference in them potentially forcing extra time two points away from a win and from an unbelievable day in the 30th year, it wasn't quite to be, but still a very, very good season to get into the top four? Yeah, look, on paper, three, three back to the backs, or three, tenor cups, and doing it back to back, very impressive. Probably left the jungle pointless lap behind us, and found out that's a different story. But yeah, look, top four, excellent, and all that, but I mean, I was a lot more emotional about the whole last than I expected to be, and I wasn't even there. I felt incredibly guilty was there and I'd be honest if the same event was to happen again I would I wouldn't commentate on the other same phone. I would have gone to To see it because it's just a lot felt wrong to me honest with you And even meeting all the cookies hands jokes for Dean afterwards and we met away back on the road finally like you know They're just such a new incredible incredible unique was doing so to a black and amber color glasses but like I'm producing, I watched it knowing the results, knowing everything that happened because I was watching on the laptop in Tarynure at the end of it but when I watched the highlights I still got nervous and kind of took the penalty and I still got one of my stomachs because it looks for a moment like it's going to go over the bear and it's devastating and talking to them in laughter towards their heartbroken and push. Plant half. Tony Ryan says an interview afterwards. It didn't play particularly well. They were pushed right to the edge, but their ability to win. Yeah, it's it's incredible. It doesn't have to be pretty. They don't have to be playing their vegetable. Their ability to win their fucking resilience to win is incredible. And I tip my hat to them and Tony, Dylan Dunne and these guys, they're probably epitomizes. And the day he said afterwards like they'll have to be a lap better to win a final but really it doesn't matter because they're there and it's one note down to one performance so I think cookies got into that same final hadn't played well at all didn't matter it was a one-off game indeed it was there was one moment um it just again all he was getting nervous and comes and and jack or seven did a brilliant job from landstone and co-cams as well but the two of us were there so there's about a hundred cookies fans to the right hand side under the stand and I've got another 50 or 60 turf but it's right in front of the cookies bench as the penalty is awarded and there's just a hush of silence. It was almost like a minute silence where nobody in the ground said anything because the realization was there if this went over, tar for staring going out and the cookies were hoping against hope that it was going to go over but it was just a phenomenal moment And we should also say as well as streaming was the paywall raise just over 4,000 euros between the clubs. So we will have further details on that, but thanks a million to everybody who paid the 699, as you said, 100% of that was going to the clubs, 75% of the home teams, 24.5% of the weight teams and 0.5% was going to a chosen charity by energy and the plan next season in your first one of the night. Where do you see any weakness in these potential sides? So if you're clan to earth looking at terra new or vice versa, you can pick one and see because terra new or won the game in castle avenue. Terra win the game in lakelands. Where do you see it going and how do you see the the metric going and as I said, where do you feel there could be little little little um spots of weakness for for either side. Well like I said before it's not that they're capable of beating but there has to be the end of the day again, uh low-party said that you know the big cookies probably when they felt they didn't they didn't play their best that's always a good sign and a semi final I think um I I I actually I obviously only saw the highlights of this um And I texted you, I talked, turn your look. I thought they looked fucking awesome on first phase in particular. Thought they looked really good. Barkley mentioned there, they're a bit more pragmatic than with the ball. I don't know what's that due to the rain that was followed in Dublin, because that's not necessarily how we'd associate them playing all season long. I think if Clantarff can defend Terranura first phase, I think they'll find see their chances of coming up the top. And that's not to say Terranura can pick, like you could say, Terranura if they can match their spawn, and forward power and fog carriers if they can kill it, whatever you call it, an ASF 9 or There was a line out where turf managed to get a little peel and a carry and then it just couldn't stop Tony Ryan I think we we both spoke about that in the week afterwards So the intricate details as Maris just alluded to they're basically our first phase and what not is Is that where you see it coming down to at the weekend? I've been down to cover various and so somebody didn't speak what they were trying to turn your and can't turn your damn They're the breakdown it was it just looked at their their their rock reaction And the opportunity to counter up turn your ball was non-existent, whereas you felt kind of times where fuck there's a turn overcoming two, three phases before it inevitably did. And I think Tarrif will be expecting a barrage at Brechtel, you know, there's going to be a lot of counter up and there's going to be a challenge on the floor, every one of those, but I think Tarrif will be okay with that because they're just physically that tight. The second thing I would say on that is, car can't make a lot of errors in terms of draft kicks when there was a kick exchange going on, as Master said, they're like, you're happy to bang the ball. No, no reason to force anything. Can Troita. And they caused a lot of the cause that a mistake to give, turn north some gorgeous scrum setups, a road and a halfway line region in between those two tens. And you have a scrum there and a 15 on the, on the attack in 10. That's just, you can, and we can't afford to give too many dollars to like to turn north. I would try to do a lot of work on their lino so we'll try and stop that and just didn't know you didn't doubt those as minimal as the amount of those first phase strikes you're gonna be able to implement to do your homework on them and then discipline after that from for me they're like if you could stop the the amount of you know a lino position they have or the amount of proud quality scrum ball or they're gonna get it they're not because they're in general phase they're around from the corner a lot, whereas with Khan Tarif, it's very simple. Keep the money or 22. Yeah, I could not agree more. And I think, like, I know we're going to get to the ace clubs in a few minutes time, but I think from the point of view of the game, I covered the game in Lakelands, and I saw that there was a steal in us there. The first thing that stood out to me with Tarif was they knew that they had to perform based on terranial winning in Lakelands. So I think that score has been settled. So I think, like you said, the emotional pitch needs to be right, but the big thing that struck me was when Tarf got any penalties along the 15, maybe a tougher angle, they made sure that they got as much change out of those kicks as possible, and when they got into the 22 or 30 meters out, they came away with three, five, or seven, and it was absolutely remarkable. Terranor scored late in that game to get a losing bonus point, but actually ultimately they finished the point ahead of Khan to get the home semi-final, but I think it's very, an effective job and you'd imagine if they're homework done, you look at the quality culture on both sides, these teams have would have dissected one another. It could be lower scoring than people anticipating and it could be a lot closer than people anticipating, but what I think is going to be really interesting is that Terry Newer is going to be talking about winning collisions and stopping turf because they're a power team, but to be honest with you, Terry Newer as well in general phase, if you don't make a mistake and you're happy to kick exchange and it's and even, it's an even keel there. And then when Turnior do come around the corner and they use the likes of Jordan Carton, Harrison Brown, they use him brilliantly. But I think Terre will be able to swallow that up especially earlier in the game. And then you're just gonna see a lot of kicking and it'll come down to fine moments, you know, key penalties, little glimpses of nerves that set peace. And there'll be, it'll come down to a couple of big moments but it should be a cracking game. And I think it's gonna be a game for the purists and I'm entirely looking forward to it. It's going to be incredible. I'm not even going to normally say, you know, what battles are you looking forward to? Literally, the two back trees could not be more matched. Matarsi against Peterson West, 12 and 12, whether Tarth go with it. The front row is the second row is the battle of the line out. It is the game. It's interesting because I'm really pitched. Avoy McCourt, and I'm then a Tarth type team, and you give away a penalty anywhere and a half And I thought that's a 22 entry especially to a team that has very good more of a seppies like Tafton, whereas if you give away a penalty and you're playing the tire in your type team We're going fuck Caitlyn. Do he's gonna bang this over the bear Do you know what I mean? He is ridiculous man to see him live under pressure with two thousand people there massive game and Just casualism which that man can put the ball over from anywhere. It's phenomenal, but um But if you're in Dublin and like I'm sure BlackRock and Baron Hall if they're on a rollover from being promoted are scariest get to the Eviva, you know what I mean? People have people have to criticize powers in being sure. I honestly would encourage anybody who's an all-earn league supporter in Dublin on Sunday that doesn't have plans to get to the Eviva and It would be fantastic if we could do you know get to a point where you're seeing of it. And who knows, maybe there will be people drinking refreshments outside toners at an early time. I'm hoping to get up there myself. That is the one final this weekend. At the other end of the table, Shannon were 24 points to six winners against old Wesley in Tom and Park. He was 12 points to six at half time. Wesley was 16 up after about 30 minutes there. But Shannon through Jordan you're taking us? It's funny because I actually, no offense mark and it's probably not listening at this stage, your season is over. I actually didn't fancy Wesley to be channen a couple of weekends ago. I have an opposite feeling about how you feel in channen. I think, you know, over the last couple of seasons, as you said, in the senior cup in 1B, the semi final last year, and there's no love last between the sides and I mean you for the last couple of seasons it won't be you couldn't argue it's a fact that how you feel have finished above Sherman I feel will absolutely relish the chance to go to Tom Pack then there'll be no fear headed there from I think they have a better chance of beating Shannon and Wesley did. In saying that, Shannon, I was talking to Mark and about the game. He said, they scored, you know, they got all the championships. It was actually quite tight. They scored just after, after, after, and then scored with the last player again to pull away. You know, probably showing that the benefit of playing those games at a higher level, I know I had still in your presence of all phrases that Friday, but I do think this is going to be close. I think it's going to be once again, but this could go either way, I think. Fair point, Borki, just on that, looking at Shannon, there's a lot of names there would experience the likes of, you know, Lee, Nicholas, Ron and Coffee, unbelievable farms in Woodley Park, or in Ali Campbell Park, excuse me, that they were hoping for one more. Moss said they won't fear going to Tom and Park, but what for you will highfield as a 1B site playing against a 1A site need to do to beat this Shannon team? First of all, I'm saying their farms only come back incredible and up there were probably one of the best results of the entire set of semi-finals that were played that weekend. They'll have to be much more disciplined than they tend to be on occasion. They'll have to be ruthless when they get an opportunity to score. It won't be because they've been bigger and stronger than teams. You know, their conversion rate sometimes isn't as crazy as it should be. Whereas they'll have limited times opportunities here and they'll have to be and take their shots. They'll have to do a massive job, stopping the Shannon line out in French. Shannon has been very good this season, and Amal has been very, very effective for them this season. And I think they'll have to do their homework there, and they'll have to make sure that Amal D is up the scratch. And after that, I think they've got to believe, because Shannon do have Hoi-Feel's number, even though Hoi-Feel have finally been the better side on paper in 1B and finished above Shannon last year, when he's back frolly, if he is, that's massive for Shannon. Yeah, but on the bench in the semi-final, I wasn't aware that, yeah, that's huge for Shannon. That's huge for Shannon to have him back. But yeah, and also I think when it comes down to this, do I feel have that 80 minute performance in them? I know, I've no doubt 50, 60 minutes, it's gonna be one score. And then after that, 65 kind of minutes on, And you know, that's where Shannon should, you think, have the experience of playing at that higher level for that longer period. But yeah, I know I think it's going to be a cracking game and again, it's going to be a huge crowd. Intriguing, indeed. And to my knowledge, and I think in the energy, all our league meetings between the two sides, it was in one beat last year, was it six all? In Woodley Park, they drew with them, six all are nine all. I think Shannon won 12 of six and then the playoff semi-final. So one score is the name of the game. and it certainly is going to be tense on the Tohman Perk. Can I just make two bent and best wishes to Tohoy from Perk's one to came behind. He has assured me that this is actually it. It's Adam Michael Jordan's story, you know, a ploy for to get more money or anything like that. He's actually hanging on. Allegedly. No, I'm not serious. It's a great servant to the game. A guy who's professional, who could have just left like a lot to, he didn't, he went to UCC as a player, as a leader for years, then send her coaching and then still had the itch to go and play again, which I thought was amazing as, you know, what he's just losing his turkey, turkey won. After all the injuries, he's been true and it's been absolutely phenomenal. I think of anything probably a little bit to prove to himself this year that he still had it and he by God, he still does And it'll be his last game, Williams and Sean Saturday, and it'll be emotional for him, and he's a good friend of mine, just want to wish him the best. And congratulate him on a proper career. And I also want to apologize to Jonathan Charles, apparently, Frolly, who we met Saturday night in Dingle. And it was to me. All I'm saying is we had our first points Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. Don't remember me. Yeah, and I certainly had no intention of offending you. I'm sure you're not a J2 player, look anything like it and apparently you do bench 52 so that's 52 kg dumbbells is impressive to be fair I thought it was just 52 full stop No, 52s. I think was one way rather than a man I've after in our recollection of meeting you and I wish you the best luck you're a quality player and a lovely guy from what I gather and Hopefully we can laugh about over a point on the line he never mind gone to depths of the winter, down to the Nile bank. Well, apparently we were swimming last year, isn't it? Yeah, it was a water park open in Northampton. Just on all number, we asked for a second of moments, and we got a couple of them, but it was a lovely reminder. Jesus. I honestly, I have no idea for Division 1 final, or what I final... I think Ternor favorites, but I also have the pressures on them. What I also do think of two teams played at their best. I think Ternor will win it, so I'm going to say Ternor. And I hope, I don't think so, because every time we don't pick Yeah.
