СпутникиРНSpaceXРоскосмосNASAKARACHI: Sindh Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah conducted a detailed visit to ongoing major development projects in Scheme 33, Malir Memon Goth, Munawar Underpass and adjoining areas of Karachi and reviewed the progress, quality and pace of work on roads, bridges, underpasses and other infrastructure schemes.
Director General KDA Zain-ul-Abideen Ansari and relevant officials briefed the provincial minister in detail about the ongoing works, estimated costs, completion timelines and construction progress of various projects.
The officials informed the minister that construction of an 11.54-kilometre-long road was under way in Malir Memon Goth at an estimated cost of Rs1,428 million. The construction work on the project had commenced in February 2026 and was targeted for completion within 24 months.
The road would have a width of 7.3 metres and the project also included a 125-metre-long flyover. The road was being constructed from the Expressway through Malir River Road, and its completion would provide better connectivity between Malir Memon Goth and adjoining areas and major roads. During the briefing on development schemes in Scheme 33, the minister was informed that construction of four major roads was in progress, while a project for a 24-kilometre-long dual carriageway had an estimated cost of Rs1,987 million, with around 70 per cent of the work already completed. Efforts were being made to complete the project ahead of schedule.
According to officials, the road network being developed in Scheme 33 would further improve connectivity with the M-9 Motorway and Super Highway. The road being constructed from Mehran Road to Link Road had a width of 10 metres, while construction work was also under way on Madras Road, Roomi Road and Sachal Sarmast Road to Link Road.
The completion of these projects would provide improved travelling facilities to residents of Scheme 33 and adjoining areas and facilitate access to major highways. The minister was also informed that a bridge was being constructed along with the road at Thado Nala, which would help reduce transportation difficulties in the area and improve traffic flow.
Syed Nasir Hussain Shah also visited the Munawar Underpass and reviewed the ongoing development work there. The relevant officials briefed him on the various stages of construction, progress of work and measures being taken to improve traffic flow.
The provincial minister inspected different sections of the project and directed the authorities to accelerate construction while ensuring that the work was completed according to the required standards so that commuters could be provided with better travelling facilities and traffic pressure on major roads could be reduced. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah directed the concerned authorities to further accelerate the pace of work on all ongoing projects, make efforts to complete the schemes ahead of their stipulated timelines and ensure construction quality at every stage.
Speaking on the occasion, Nasir Hussain Shah said the Sindh government was paying special attention to both the completion and quality of development projects in Karachi. He said regular on-site inspections were aimed at directly monitoring the pace and quality of work, adding that projects which could be completed ahead of schedule would be completed at the earliest to facilitate citizens. He said work was under way on the construction and rehabilitation of a large number of small and major roads across Karachi, while the Sindh government had provided funds for development projects.
He added that relevant institutions, including the FWO, had been assigned responsibilities for important projects in Karachi and the government wanted the benefits of these schemes to reach the public at the earliest. The minister said improvement of Karachi’s road infrastructure was among the government’s key priorities. Along with the construction of new roads, bridges and underpasses, different areas were being connected with the M-9 Motorway, Super Highway and other major arteries to provide better travelling facilities in view of the city’s growing population and increasing traffic pressure. Nasir Hussain Shah said Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had a clear vision for development and construction, and the Sindh government was working under the same vision on projects aimed at public welfare and improvement of urban infrastructure.
He said steps were being taken to further empower local government institutions from the union council to town level so that the local government system could play a more effective role in providing basic civic facilities to the people. Responding to a question about local government elections, the minister said the conduct of elections fell within the jurisdiction of the Election Commission and the Sindh government wanted to avoid any unnecessary delay in local government polls.
Regarding the petroleum levy, Nasir Hussain Shah said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also spoken about abolishing the petroleum levy and added that the people should be provided relief and facilitation in view of the increase in petrol prices.
