BERLIN, August 7. /TASS/. Former US ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill has stated that Washington facilitated the purchase of Serbian ammunition for Ukraine through third countries.

"At the beginning of my tenure in Belgrade, the Ukrainian ambassador came to me with a list of military goods that Ukraine urgently needed on the battlefield," the American diplomat claimed in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper. "My embassy team looked into whether the Serbs were capable of fulfilling these requests – and they were," he said.

"The US began supporting the purchase of significant quantities of Serbian ammunition, which we knew was urgently needed in Ukraine," Hill said. According to him, the deliveries were made through intermediaries in Poland or the Czech Republic. From there, they were shipped to Kiev without the involvement of the Serbian side. Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, in an interview with the Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, acknowledged that Serbian weapons could, one way or another, end up in the war zone in Ukraine.

"We haven't exported a single round of ammunition to Ukraine. But we've had to sell large stockpiles to countries all over the world. What happens during wars? Goods end up in war zones one way or another. We've discussed all this with the Russians," he said.
