James Nesbitt has been announced to join an upcoming series based on Agatha Christie novels.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest detectives in fiction, Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot novels have sold over 750 million copies, captivating readers and audiences for more than a century

A six-part series for the BBC, 'Hercule' is an "intimate study of Hercule the man and an epic portrait of Britain between the wars."

A description reads: "The series takes a magnifying glass to three of Christie’s most celebrated stories, while also charting Hercule’s burgeoning friendship with Captain Arthur Hastings, his early encounters with Scotland Yard’s James Japp, and introducing him to one particular nemesis…"

This week, James Nesbitt was added to the cast list ahead of filming beginning in Liverpool - however, no details of what character he will play have been announced so far.

The Northern Irish acting legend was announced alongside Henry Ashton (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), James D'Arcy (Oppenheimer), Calvin Demba (Life), Phil Dunning (Am I Being Unreasonable?), Jack Gleeson (Game of Thrones), Tamsin Greig (Friday Night Dinner), Guy Remmers (The Buccaneers), Rebecca Rittenhouse (Maggie) and Mawaan Rizwan (Juice).

English actor Edward Bluemel had previously been announced to lead the programme as he takes on the role of Hercule Poirot.

With filming commencing soon, it is expected that we will see Hercle on our screens in 2027.
