The M1 is set for a lengthy spell of roadworks as National Highways carries out maintenance on safety barriers in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

The project will be carried out between junction 28 (Mansfield/Alfreton) to junction 30 (Balborough) of the motorway, with works lasting from Monday (July 20) until March next year.

To allow the eight months of works to be carried out safely, a series of lane closures and slip road closures will be in place.

National Highways says the works will be carried out overnight between 9pm and 6am, from Monday to Friday.

National Highways has now released a full list of northbound and southbound restrictions set to be in place over the next eight months:

Northbound

• July 20 to August 7: Northbound lane 1 and 2 closed between junction 28 and junction 29
• July 28: Junction 29 northbound entry slip road closed
• August 5 and August 6: Junction 29 northbound exit slip road closed
• August 10 to August 18: Northbound lane 1 and 2 closed between junction 29 and junction 29a
• August 10 and August 11: Junction 29a northbound exit slip road closed
• August 19 to September 10: Northbound lane 1 and 2 closed between junction 29a and junction 30
• August 25: Junction 29a northbound entry slip road closed
• September 3 and September 4: Junction 30 northbound exit slip road closed
• October 27 and October 28: Junction 30 southbound entry slip road closed
• November 9 to January 25: Southbound lane 1 and 2 closed between junction 29 and junction 28
• November 23 and November 24: Tibshelf Services slip roads closed
• January 11 and January 12: Junction 28 southbound exit slip road closed

Southbound

• September 11 to October 13: Southbound lane 1 and 2 closed between junction 30 and junction 29a
• September 11 and September 14: Junction 30 southbound exit slip road closed
• September 28 to October 13: Southbound lane 1 and 2 closed between junction 30 and junction 29a
• September 28: Junction 29a southbound exit slip road closed
• September 29: Junction 29a southbound entry slip road closed
• October 14 to November 6: Southbound lane 1 and 2 closed between junction 29a and junction 29
• October 23 and October 26: Junction 29 southbound exit slip road closed
• October 27 and October 28: Junction 30 southbound entry slip road closed
• November 9 to January 25: Southbound lane 1 and 2 closed between junction 29 and junction 28
• November 23 and November 24: Tibshelf Services slip roads closed
• January 11 and January 12: Junction 28 southbound exit slip road closed

Work will not take place during the August Bank Holiday weekend or between the busy Christmas shopping days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Work will also not take place from December 21 to January 4 due to the festive period.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "We’ll be carrying out maintenance work on the safety barriers along the M1 between junction 28 and junction 30 to extend their serviceable life.

"Where it is safe to do so, access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained in emergency situations.

"We’ll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum.

"We always aim to work to the programme, however unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions may mean changes. Please accept our apologies in advance for any inconvenience this may cause."
