Joined by a new Keith Haring collection, the French fashion house’s retrospective Grand Palais booth will feature seven years of artist-designed Capucines bags, as well as the creators’ own works.

French fashion house Louis Vuitton is marking seven years of its Artycapucines program with a retrospective at Art Basel Paris.
Staged on the Balcon d’Honneur of the Grand Palais, an upcoming retrospective presentation, open to the public from Oct. 23 to 25, sets artist-designed versions of the Capucines bag beside works by the same creators. In all, 14 artists are featured, and the booth also debuts a new Artycapucines collection devoted to Keith Haring.

This year, for the first time, a selection of Louis Vuitton Editions books will also be sold at the Art Basel Store.
The exhibition design borrows from archival storage and art handling, using open crates, plinths and trunk-like structures in brushed aluminum and cotton canvas. The packing references nod to the maison’s 19th-century beginnings as a packer and trunk-maker.

Pairings include Alex Israel’s 2019 “Cut-Out-Fin (Golden Hour)” with his fin-detailed 2023 bag, as well as Urs Fischer’s “Fruits” (2026) next to his design, which suspends a banana from the handle.
Painters Josh Smith and Henry Taylor, both part of the 2020 edition, show canvases beside their bags, while Kennedy Yanko, Liza Lou and Billie Zangewa bring sculptural, beaded and embroidered approaches.
The house traces its artistic ties back more than a century, to a 1920 collaboration with designer Pierre Legrain and later commissions by Gaston-Louis Vuitton for advertising, catalogs and travel objects. Image courtesy of Louis Vuitton
Longtime collaborators receive their own spotlight. Takashi Murakami’s “Monogramouflage Skull (Black)” (2008) accompanies his Capucines XXL Camo, while the late Yayoi Kusama’s “Great Gigantic Pumpkin” (2023) and the late Frank Gehry’s fish-shaped lamps also appear.
Last year, Louis Vuitton used the fair to introduce Mr. Murakami’s camouflage Artycapucines (see story).
The Haring collection is displayed alongside a 1930s Louis Vuitton suitcase that the artist signed in the 1980s. Its bags carry miniature figures, dancers, a running heart and chains of graphic symbols.
