Selena Gomez has spent years sharing different parts of her life with the public.
Now, she’s opening up about a habit she wishes she’d never started.
In a video shared through her Instagram Stories on October 18, the singer, actor and Rare Beauty founder spoke about her experience with nicotine vaping.
And according to Selena, the consequences have affected something particularly important to her career: her voice.
The 34-year-old explained that she used to vape heavily and believes the habit caused lasting changes to the way she sounds.
She also described nicotine as difficult to quit, acknowledging that giving up the habit has been a challenging process.
Selena said she’s happy to have stopped and hopes she can continue staying away from vaping.
Her comments arrive at a time when electronic cigarettes remain popular among younger audiences, partly because of their flavors, appearance and widespread presence on social media.
But while vaping is sometimes presented as a less harmful alternative to smoking, nicotine remains highly addictive.
And inhaling substances from electronic cigarettes can expose users to health risks.
For Selena, the issue is personal.
As someone whose career includes singing, acting and public appearances, her voice is a central part of her professional identity.
She has previously addressed questions about changes in her vocal tone, although those earlier comments did not establish vaping as the cause.
Her latest statement reflects her own experience and belief about what happened.
It should not be treated as a medical diagnosis confirming the exact reason for her voice changes.
Still, Selena’s decision to discuss nicotine addiction publicly may encourage others to reconsider a habit that can be difficult to stop.
And that’s what makes the story more important than another celebrity confession.
Sometimes, the consequences of a habit become clearer only after someone tries to leave it behind.
