Security concerns, the festive season and law and order issues were cited in the decision, leaving the Delhi leg of the singer’s Aura India Tour uncertain
The Delhi police has denied permission for singer Diljit Dosanjh’s concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the Capital on October 30, citing specific threat-related inputs and security and law-and-order concerns during the festive season.
The decision, communicated to ticketing platform BookMyShow after the police examined the organisers’ October 14 application, has left the Delhi leg of the singer’s Aura India Tour uncertain.
In a letter seen by The Hindu, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South District) Anant Mittal said the request could not be granted. “In view of the specific threat-related inputs, coupled with the multifarious security and law & order commitments arising out of the ongoing festive season and other important law & order concerns, the same cannot be acceded to,” the letter read.
The decision drew criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which accused the government of bias against the singer.
“Real heroes like @diljitdosanjh supported the farmers’ movement and spoke against police violence on students. A brave Sardar always troubles dictators, as did Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh. The government is biased against such brave Punjabis,” AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj wrote on X.
AAP MLA Jarnail Singh questioned why permission for the concert had “reportedly” been “cancelled” on security grounds.
“If security was the concern, why was the issue not addressed with proper planning? Artists and music lovers deserve clarity, not confusion. The public deserves answers!” Mr. Singh wrote on X.
Meanwhile, sources among the organisers said discussions with the police are under way to find a way forward. “Dosanjh’s team is also involved in the discussions surrounding the circumstances and the show.”
The organisers have not announced the cancellation of the concert or a change of venue.
