Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is redefining what is possible in public education as it officially opened applications for its renowned Magnet and Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) programs for the 2027–28 school year.
A world of possibilities awaits as M-DCPS continues to expand its offerings, empowering students to spark their curiosity, explore their passions, and chart their own unique path to future success through tuition-free, cutting-edge educational choices.
As part of its expanding portfolio of innovative choices, M-DCPS is highlighting several notable programs available for the upcoming school year. Parents can apply to the new SportsPLEX program at Miami Killian Senior High, the SpaceHUB program at Booker T. Washington Senior High and Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High, the new Classical Academy Magnet at Village Green Elementary, as well as Culinary Arts at Riviera Middle School and Information Technology at Lamar Louise Curry Middle School.
These opportunities are in addition to more than 300 Magnet programs available throughout the district in areas such as arts, science, technology, and skilled trades.
To ensure a smooth enrollment process, M-DCPS has established clear pathways for application depending on the program grade level and type.
All Magnet program applications for grades K–12 are submitted online exclusively through the M-DCPS Parent Portal at dadeschools.net.
Parents can easily log in using an Apple ID or Google ID and select the Admissions Application tile to apply.
For VPK programs, online applications also are via the Parent Portal for M-DCPS’s five specialized Magnet Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) programs, as well as approximately 16 additional VPK school sites that will conduct admission lotteries. Parents seeking to enroll in these specific VPK programs must complete the online VPK application through the Parent Portal.
For all other high-quality traditional public school VPK programs across the district, families may apply by visiting their neighborhood school. Families are encouraged to tour the school and complete the registration process during the same visit. Seats are limited and are generally filled on a first-come, first-served basis at participating schools, so early registration is encouraged.
As the nation’s third-largest school district and a recognized leader in school choice, innovation, and student success, M-DCPS remains your best choice for a world-class public education.
Your Child’s educational journey awaits
The Magnet and VPK applications join the year-round M-DCPS Choice application, ensuring families have multiple pathways to explore specialized programs. M-DCPS is committed to providing expanded access to high-quality, specialized programs, offering more educational choices than ever before. The district’s innovative Magnet Schools are dedicated to inspiring, engaging, and preparing students for a successful future.
