Absentee voting is underway leading up to Maine’s Nov. 3 election. In addition to electing local and county officials, Buxton voters will choose members of a charter commission that will revise the town’s charter.

On Election Day, Buxton residents can vote in person from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Buxton Town Office, 185 Portland Road.

The town will hold special absentee voting hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on two Saturdays, Oct. 17 and Oct. 24. The Buxton Town Office is open for regular absentee voting on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 11:40 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

CHARTER COMMISION

Buxton voters approved a referendum question in June to establish a charter commission to revise Buxton’s municipal charter. In November, voters will elect members to that commission.

Eleven candidates are vying for the commission’s six seats. The candidates are Debra Bickford, Meegan Diconzo, Clifford Emery, Julie Gamelson, William Hall, Mary Macleod, Michael Pettis, Henry Sheedy, Emily Weyrauch, Beverly Young and Kevin Young.

MAINE SENATE & HOUSE

Buxton voters will decide between three-term incumbent Democrat Donna Bailey and Republican Scott Benedetto Eccleston for State Senate District 31.

In Maine House District 137, which covers most of Buxton and Hollis, incumbent Republican Nathan Carlow is seeking a third term, facing Democrat Charles Tilburg. The northern area of Buxton falls under Maine House District 138, where Republican former Maine State House District 22 Rep. Jonathan Lee Kinney is running against Democrat Oliver McAvoy.

YORK COUNTY RACES

Democrat Bobby Mills is running unopposed for York County treasurer, incumbent Wendy Caiazzo is the sole candidate for York County register of deeds, and the race for county commissioner forYork District 3 is also uncontested, with Justin Chenette up for a second term.

Incumbent and Democrat William King and Republican David Corbett are running for York County sheriff. Chief Deputy of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Brian Pellerin will also appear on the ballot, but he ended his campaign in September.

There is also a referendum question asking voters to decide on abolishing the elected, part-time county treasurer position and replacing it with a treasurer appointed by county commissioners. Officials have said the elected position serves little purpose in its current form.
