Three Portland breweries recently earned medals at the prestigious Great American Beer Festival.

Orange Bike Brewing Company won two medals, while Bissell Brothers Brewing and Allagash Brewing Company won one medal each.

Orange Bike took home a gold for its Pumpkin Ale in the category of Specialty Gluten-Free Beer. Its Oktoberfest beer also won a silver in the Classic Gluten-Free Ale or Lager category at the event, held earlier this month in Denver.

“This one’s for our brewers, starting with our head brewer, Jason Kissinger,” Orange Bike founder and CEO Tom Ruff said in a news release. “It’s also for our growers and partners, the state of Maine and the Maine Venture Fund, our Mug Club members and community investors, and every gluten-free guest who has walked through our doors and finally felt like they could order anything on the menu.”

Allagash White won a gold medal in the Belgian-Style Witbier catgeory. The iconic flagship beer was also among five “Landmark Craft Beers” in the American Craft Beer Hall of Fame’s second annual induction ceremony in August.

Bissell Brothers’ Precept won a bronze medal in the American Pilsner category.

Judges evaluated 7,267 entries of beer, cider and hop water at the competition from 1,300 breweries and cideries in 49 states, plus Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. A total of 243 breweries and cideries won medals this year.
