  Austen’s final and unfinished 1817 novel Sanditon was adapted into a series that aired on ITV in the United Kingdom and then PBS in the United States. Created by Andrew Davies, the series starred Rose Williams as Charlotte Heywood, Crystal Clarke as Georgiana Lambe, Kris Marshall as Tom Parker, Kate Ashfield as Mary Parker, Jack Fox as Sir Edward Denham, Ben Lloyd-Hughes as Alexander Colbourne, Theo James as Sidney Parker and many more. Sanditon can be accessed via Prime Video in addition to PBS in the states.

• ‘Pride And Prejudice’ (1995)

  Pride And Prejudice also became a TV miniseries in 1995 starring Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy and Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth Bennet. Alison Steadman played Mrs. Bennet, and Benjamin Whitrow played Mr. Bennet. The 1995 television series is streaming on Hulu.

  Keira Knightly led the Joe Wright-directed Pride and Prejudice (2005) as Elizabeth bennet alongside Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy. Rosamund Pike portrayed Jane Bennet, Jena Malone played Lydia Bennet and Carey Mulligan played Kitty Bennet. Brenda Blethyn played Mrs. Bennet, and the late Donald Sutherland portrayed Mr. Bennet. Simon Woods played Mr. Bingley, Kelley Reilly played Caroline Bingley and Ruper Friend portrayed Mr. Wickham. Who could forget Tom Hollander’s performance as Mr. Collins? The 2005 Pride and Prejudice film is available to rent on Prime Video and Apple TV as well as streaming.

• ‘Emma’ – 2020

  Focus Features was also behind the Autumn de Wilde-directed film adaptation of Emma. (2020). Adapted from Austen’s book by Eleanor Catton, the film starred Anya Taylor-Joy in the titular role of Emma Woodhouse, Johnny Flynn as Mr. Knightley, Mia Goth as Harriet Smith, Bill Nighy as Mr. Woodhouse, Josh O’Connor as Mr. Elton, Connor Swindells as Robert Martin and more. The film is available to rent on Prime Video and Apple TV.

• ‘Persuasion’ – 2022, Netflix Image Credit: Netflix

  Dakota Johnson portrayed Anne Elliot in the Netflix film adaptation of Persuasion, which had been done a few times before. The streamer’s version also starred Henry Golding as Mr. Elliot, Cosmo Jarvis as Wentworth and Richard E. Grant as Sir Walter Elliot. The film is streaming on Netflix. The 1995 version is available to rent on Prime Video, Apple TV and streaming on Britbox, the Roku Channel and Tubi as is the 2007 film, which is also streaming on Hulu.

  The Ang Lee-directed film adapted from Sense And Sensibility by Emma Thompson also starred Thompson as Elinor alongside Kate Winslet as Marianne Dashwood. Alan Rickman portrayed Colonel Brandon, and Hugh Grant portrayed Edward Ferrars. The film is not currently streaming anywhere, but it is available to rent on Prime Video and Apple TV.

  Georgia Oakley’s Sense And Sensibility (2026) is the latest film adaptation to join the collection of Austen novels turned tv and movies. Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles star in the new version of Austen’s debut novel as the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne, respectively. Caitríona Balfe portrays Mrs. Dashwood, and Fiona Shaw portrays Mrs. Jennings. The film arrived in theaters October 16.
