The top four teams in the Varsity Maine field hockey poll have been the same and in the same order since the first poll of the season. That changes this week. Mt. Ararat, fourth last week, earned a huge 4-1 victory over Skowhegan on Monday. Now the Eagles are No. 2, while the River Hawks are No. 4.

Further changes to the top four could come next week because No. 1 Cheverus plays at No. 3 Biddeford on Wednesday (the game was postponed due to Tuesday’s rain). The Stags also have a game against No. 10 Sanford/Kennebunk (currently the third-ranked team in Class A South) on their remaining schedule. The Tigers face Falmouth, whose four losses have come to the top four teams in A South and teams either ranked or receiving votes in the Varsity Maine poll.

No. 7 Camden Hills has the opportunity to make an argument for inclusion in the top five with games against both Mt. Ararat and Skowhegan. Meanwhile, fifth-ranked Yarmouth has to face Greely, which is tied for eighth, and Freeport.

Nokomis, tied for eighth, rejoins the poll. The Warriors were ranked ninth in the second week.

The Varsity Maine field hockey poll is based on games played before Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
