Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has requested Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to facilitate extension of the proposed elevated road corridor along Cuddalore - Puducherry Road up to Mullodai junction.

The Chief Minister in a letter to the Union Minister has drawn his attention to the proposed plan of the Ministry for improvement / widening of the Puducherry - Cuddalore Road up to Mullodai at a cost of ₹650 crore. The proposal was to construct an elevated corridor for 2.6 km and widen the remaining stretch of 13.3 km.

The Ministry should consider expanding the proposed project plan to provide an elevated corridor up to Mullodai border to facilitate free flow of vehicles on the Puducherry - Cuddalore Road. The extension of the elevated corridor would require additional funds to the tune of ₹1,500 crore, the letter said.

The Chief Minister’s letter requesting the project expansion was handed over to Mr. Gadkari by Minister for Public Works Malladi Krishna Rao when he was in Gujarat recently to attend the two-day National Chintan Shivir organised by the Ministry, said an official.

The Chief Minister also requested the Ministry to appoint a consultant for the preparation of detailed project report for the road project on the Cuddalore stretch. Mr. Rangasamy thanked the Ministry for sanctioning ₹436 crore for the elevated corridor project connecting Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi squares.

The Chief Minister also thanked the Union Minister for sanctioning three MoRTH-funded works amounting to ₹79.40 crore and five projects costing ₹61.96 crore under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund.
