Earlier this year, we learned the snazzy new Ford Bronco Filson would be reaching customers rocking a variant of the twin-turbo 3.0L V6 engine found in the mighty off-road Raptor. Now news has surfaced this mill is going to find a home under the hoods of several other trims as well.

Citing folks in the know, talking heads are saying Ford plans to offer the 3.0L EcoBoost across the lines in which the 2.7L V6 EcoBoost could be found, such as the Outer Banks and Badlands. The natty Heritage edition is likely to get it as well, reports Ford Authority.

A power tweak helps the Raptor retain its status as king of the hill, however, as the more widely available engine is said to make 380 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque. That’s about 40 ponies down on the Raptor, though torque is identical. Marketing types called it “application-specific tuning” when touting the new Filson.

What isn’t immediately clear is if the 3.0L will completely usurp the 2.7L in the Bronco, though Driving’s Magic Eight Ball says all signs point to “yes.” It takes that direction from the fact that, earlier this year, Ford pulled the 2.7L from its best-selling F-150 and plunked the 3.0L in its place as that model’s new base engine. While stated output in that instance remained the same (325 hp and 400 tq) its horsepower peak fell several hundred rpm to a far more usable range.
