New Delhi: A delegation of women BJP MPs will meet Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday and demand action against Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, who was recently sacked as a professor at JNU amid sexual harassment allegations.

According to the BJP, the delegation will meet the Speaker at his office in Parliament at around 11 am.

"A high-level delegation of women MPs, led by BJP Mahila Morcha president Roop Kumari Chaudhary, will meet with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to demand action against Congress MP Bimol Akoijam, accused in a sexual harassment case," the BJP said.

Akoijam, a professor at the Centre for the Study of Social Systems under the Jawaharlal Nehru University's (JNU) School of Social Sciences, was dismissed with immediate effect on October 9 following an inquiry into the harassment allegations against him. However, he has denied the charges.

At least 11 female students had complained against him in May this year. The complainants alleged that Akoijam invited students to his campus residence on the pretext of meetings or gatherings and attempted to harass them sexually. Some students alleged that he also made obscene and inappropriate remarks in class.
