Google just kicked off the rollout for Chrome 155 on desktop, Android, and iOS. How quickly you get it depends on your device.

If you’re on an iPhone or iPad, you’re first in line. Google says the update’s already live on the stable channel for iOS and should show up in the App Store for everyone within a few hours.

Desktop and Android users have to wait a bit longer, since Google has only pushed an early stable release for those platforms.

This means that only a small percentage of the overall user base will receive Chrome 155 at first, and it might take several days before the company rolls out the update to the rest.

Google stated that the desktop version of the browser is getting an “early stable release to a small percentage of users.”

A similar message was sent alongside the Android version, which will become “available on Google Play over the next few days.”

Google’s rolling this out slowly to make sure there aren’t any major bugs before everyone gets it.

So, if you tried to update Chrome on your PC and got version 154, saying it is up to date, don’t worry: your device wasn’t selected in the first wave of updates, and no critical issue is affecting your browsing experience.

Google has yet to release any details regarding the changes that came with Chrome 155, so there are no specifics to report.

Still, it is always a good idea to keep your browser up to date, especially if you are concerned about zero-day vulnerabilities (which you should be).

Even though there are no official release notes for Chrome 155, the previous versions of the browser give a good insight into the type of improvements you should expect.

In particular, Android users can expect fewer annoying permission requests, as permission prompts will be less intrusive and easier to dismiss, as noted in our earlier report.

Another major change that is likely to make it to the final version is the addition of support for JPEG XL decoders and post-quantum cryptography. Google documented this in a recent developer blog post. This follows Firefox adding support with the latest 157 update. We documented the details on this in August; check it out here.

If you are not using Chrome on an iOS device, you can expect to wait several more days before Google starts distributing Chrome 155 to your device as well, so it is a good time to revisit some of the most common Chrome issues and see if any of them affect you.
