British synth experts Analogue Solutions have announced that the second batch of their limited-edition monosynth is now shipping. Limited to a run of just 200 units total, the Filtopia is an innovative design that’s capable of achieving all manner of weird and wonderful sounds thanks to a set of five analogue filters wired in parallel.

The company say that the instrument’s unique filter arrangement makes it possible to create “glorious” multiband filter sweeps, as well as facilitating vowel-like sounds that are not possible with more typical designs. Each of the five filters include controls for off-setting their cutoff frequencies, and they each operate at 12dB/octave and draw their inspiration from the Oberheim SEM. Filters 1 and 5 are switchable between low- and band-pass operation, while filters 2, 3 and 4 are all of a fixed band-pass design.

Alongside its interesting filter design, the Filtopia is equipped with three VCOs that can be freely routed to multiple filters, as well as a pair of sub-oscillators and a noise generator. There are two VCAs and three ADSR envelope generators, while modulation is handled by a pair of LFOs, and the instrument also includes an onboard eight-step sequencer.

Once again, Analogue Solutions will be exhibiting at our SynthFest UK show, which will be taking place on Saturday 24 October at The Octagon, Sheffield.

The Filtopia is available now, priced at £1799 including VAT.
