Michelle Obama has revealed how she kept her 'nepo baby' daughters grounded while they were growing up in the White House.

During the latest episode of her IMO podcast, the former First Lady, 62, spoke about the importance of saying 'no' to children in order to set them up for success later in life.

She explained that it was especially vital that she told her and former President Barack Obama's daughters, Malia, now 28, and Sasha, now 25, 'no' when they were kids because of the unique situation they were in.

The topic came up after they read a question sent in by a listener, who asked for advice on dealing with a recent job rejection.

Michelle encouraged the fan to embrace failure, explaining: 'Life is like a big muscle. You've got to build it up. Every failure is like a pushup or a rep.

'The more reps you do the stronger you get at life. You don't get the strength without the reps.'

She added that everyone has to 'learn what their own process is for getting through failure,' which is something she said you 'figure out the older you get.'

Her brother and co-host, Craig Robinson, then suggested that parents let their kids fail when they're young so that their first major setback in their 20s doesn't feel like a 'catastrophe.'

Michelle Explains Why She Told Daughters ‘No’

Michelle said that was something she implemented when her daughters were growing up, explaining that she went out of her way to tell them 'no' to things because they 'needed to know what it felt like.'

She added that now, looking back, Malia and Sasha sometimes question why she wouldn't allow them to do certain things.

'The girls tell me, "Mom, you used to tell us no." They'd be like, "Why?" Because you need to know what no feels like,' she said. 'Especially for kids like ours... there's no natural "nos."'

Guest 2 Chainz then interjected: 'Nepo babies, man.'

'We grew up with a lot of "nos,"' Michelle went on. 'It was, "No we can't afford that. No you can't have that."'

Elsewhere during the episode, Michelle gave young single men looking for love some vital dating advice.

After 2 Chainz spoke about his relationship with wife Kesha Ward, Michelle praised him for picking a 'good partner.'

She then encouraged guys who may be listening to look for someone who will challenge them and stressed the importance of finding a partner who has their own 'voice,' rather than someone who is physically attractive.

'Don't pick easy. Pick someone who's going to help you win,' she urged.

'If you were picking a basketball team, you would get someone who could do anything. You wouldn't pick someone who just shoots and doesn't dribble.

'Everyone needs to be able to shoot, dribble, score, defend. I think some men think, "You're cute." Cute ain't going to help you when you're trying to raise good kids.

'She's got to have sense, she's got to have her own hustle, her own confidence. That means she has her own voice.

'And that might not be easy because she may not "yes" you to death. Excellence is hard on both ends and some guys just want easy, but easy doesn't help sometimes.'

The new podcast episode comes after Michelle divided the internet by confessing that since she became an empty nester, she 'doesn't miss' her daughters.

'I don't miss 'em,' she said during an episode of IMO last month. 'I don't, I love them, I'm going to see them tonight for dinner. I love them, but Barack cried when they went to college and I was like, "Bye..."'

'Now, Friday nights aren't wrecked with terror and fear about, "Where are you, where are you?"' she explained.

Michelle added that she loved her two girls' 'growth' since their 'emancipation.'

'I've had so much quality time with my children, so much, I know them inside and out,' she added.
