  • Tesla’s Model 3 is getting a larger 16.0-inch infotainment screen next year
  • Wheel and upholstery options are being tweaked, as well
  • However, Canadian-market cars won’t be getting a V2L feature other markets’ cars will

Tesla early October detailed some new upgrades incoming this year for its popular Model 3, such as a larger infotainment screen. However, it is presently unclear if such changes will be immediately available in Canadian-market Teslas.

For certain markets, it’s been announced the Model 3 will get a larger touchscreen, now spanning some 16.0 inches from corner to corner. That figure will drag the car’s infotainment display in line with the one in the Model Y, and makes sense in terms of parts-sharing. The old display is a piddling 15.4-inch touchscreen (I mean, really [/sarcasm]). Tweaks were also made to stated acceleration and range numbers, though details are slim as to how these improvements were accomplished.

A post on X (formerly Twitter) by an account associated with Tesla North America mentions these changes should be expected by Model 3 customers in “US, Puerto Rico & Mexico,” but makes no reference to the Canadian market. It is unknown at this time if the lack of mention is a simple formatting point, or if indeed shoppers in the Great White North should be prepared to suffer the ignominy of a 15.4-inch screen in their new Model 3.

UPDATE October 9, 2026: Huzzah! It sounds like Canada is getting the 16-inch screen after all—the announcement for our market just came later. Model 3s here also get a new black headliner; and Premium-trim cars see the white interior option replaced with a new Zen Grey. Premium AWD models also get an acceleration boost that drops the zero-to-100-km/h time from 4.4 seconds to 4.0, reports DriveTeslaCanada.

However, there is still one feature other markets get that Canadian Teslas won’t—a V2L capability that lets owners use their cars’ batteries to power appliances or other devices. It is possible that the option is still eventually destined for our market, and that its announcement is just delayed, as with the screens. But we can’t know just yet, in any case. Our original article, from before the update announcement, continues unchanged below. —Ed.

We joke, sort of—upgrades like these are important to certain consumers. The only new features mentioned on Tesla’s own Canadian build-and-price tool, as of this writing, are two new colours (Stealth Grey and Ultra Red) and a shuffling of wheel options.

It’s worth noting examples of the Premium-trim Model 3 bound for sale in our country now flow from the brand’s factory in Shanghai, China, using production there as a way to avoid a fluid tariff situation between the countries on this continent. (That’s likely not a factor in terms of whether Canada gets the screen or not, as apparently other Shanghai 3s are being built with said display.) Performance-grade Model 3s for Canada are still churned out of Tesla’s Fremont, California plant.

The shift to Chinese sourcing has also provided opportunity for Tesla to, erm, fine-tune the Model 3 price-point, which currently sits at $39,490 for a rear-wheel-drive example in Premium trim. That one has a claimed range of 463 km and 201-km/h top speed.
