Bob Arum has warned Tommy Fury that victory over Jake Paul later this month will not guarantee he goes on to become an elite-level boxer like his brother Tyson.

Fury, 22, is gearing up for a highly-anticipated showdown with Paul, 24, in Tampa, Florida, on December 18.

Both fighters are novices in the professional ranks; Fury has racked up seven straightforward victories so far, while Paul's four wins have come against former UFC fighters, a retired NBA player and a fellow YouTuber.

Now the pair are set to put their unbeaten records on the line in an eight-round cruiserweight contest one week before Christmas.

As the younger sibling of the current WBC heavyweight champion, Fury is the slight favourite to emerge victorious and go on to bigger and better things in boxing.

However, Arum is not convinced the Gypsy King's little brother will be proving much by toppling Paul.

'We don't know if Tommy Fury would ever be an elite boxer. I mean, I could think of dozens of young light-heavyweights who would beat him,' Tyson's US promoter told talkSPORT.

'So you know, it's irrelevant to me whether he wins or loses. Because he's Tyson Fury's brother, I absolutely hope that he wins. And I wish him the best. But if he loses, he loses.

'Obviously, these are not elite fighters. They're almost like circus acts. But again, if people are influenced to watch them, nobody is putting a gun to anybody's head.

'And I think it's neither good – nor bad – for the sport of boxing.'

Fury recently explained that his end goal is to become world champion, yet he is in full agreement with Arum that beating Paul will not move him any closer to that objective.

'I'm not gonna win that by beating this idiot,' he said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

'I'm beating this man, moving on to concentrate on my dreams.

'I'm gonna be straight back in the gym on the Monday after the fight because beating this man gives me no credit in the boxing world and credit in the boxing world is what I'm after.'
