Montreal, September 11, 2026 – The DNA to RNA (D2R) Initiative at McGill is proud to announce the recipients of its 2026 Master's and Doctoral Scholar Awards, recognizing outstanding trainees conducting innovative research aligned with D2R's mission to advance RNA science and innovation.

This year's competition awarded funding to 30 exceptional graduate students, including 12 Master's Scholars and 18 Doctoral Scholars, representing a broad range of research disciplines and institutions at McGill, Université de Sherbrooke, University of Ottawa, and University of British Columbia. Through these awards, D2R continues to foster excellence in RNA-focused research and support the development of the next generation of scientific leaders.

“"The strength and diversity of this year's cohort reflect the remarkable talent driving RNA research forward across Canada," said Amelie Quesnel-Vallee, D2R's Associate Scientific Director and Chair of D2R's Student Training and Knowledge Development Committee. "By investing in emerging researchers at critical stages of their training, we are helping build the expertise, networks, and leadership needed to advance discovery and innovation in the years ahead."

The 2026 Scholar Awards further strengthen D2R's commitment to training and capacity building. With this year's cohort, the initiative has now supported 242 graduate and postdoctoral trainees across its programs, representing a commitment of more than $13.5 million over the past two years.

“"Our trainees are at the heart of D2R's vision," said Anthony Van Kessel, D2R's Training Program Officer. "The continued growth of our training portfolio and investment across McGill and D2R’s Partner Institutions demonstrates our commitment to empowering emerging researchers and providing them with the resources, experiences, and connections needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving field of RNA therapeutics."

In addition to financial support, Scholar Award recipients will participate in the D2R Training Program, which provides professional development opportunities, networking experiences, and skills-building activities designed to prepare trainees for successful careers in academia, industry, government, and the broader health innovation ecosystem.

By supporting outstanding Master's and Doctoral students across Canada, D2R continues to invest in the future of RNA research and innovation, helping train the next generation of leaders who will translate discoveries into meaningful health and societal impact.
