Gearing Up For Halloween 2026

Is anyone else getting ready for Halloween already? If so details & pictures please. Curious to know what others are up to about this.

I'd share details now on my end if ... well except a post I made on TAS, my posts tend to be flops. Will share what's planned on my end if people post about their holiday spirit first.👻

To me, it's not as exciting as it used to be. The neighborhood I live in doesn't have too many trick or treaters, so I've stopped buying candy. We used to have a Halloween party in the office every year, but that's no longer the case.

Like last year, I'll be working the late shift on Halloween. And like last year, I'll be buying a bit of Halloween-themed candy for any trick-or-treaters coming in. Not as much, though, last year I only had one group of three children, and they only came in because the grown-up going with them wanted to buy something.

So, I won't be dressing up (I don't think I'd even be allowed to at work), and won't go to any parties, but I'll be consuming a bit more horror and halloween-themed media in October, just as every year.

... Kind of feeling I'm alone here on enthusiasm about the holiday?

I'll have enthusiasm for the next day candy sales, but that's even dying out as they estimate how much is sold better.

Not going to do all that much. At my last apartment, I went through four Halloweens without a single knock on my door, which was surprising since three of my neighbors had kids and I was on good terms with all of them. This year, I moved to a gated apartment complex where nearly all of us are seniors, and no children live here at all. Won't even bother buying any candy (which I've thrown out the past four years since I'm diabetic and can't eat the stuff anymore). I'll just break out my one decoration at the beginning of October (a black bear wearing a jack-o-lantern cable knit sweater) and park it on the bookcase next to my desk like I usually do.

So far you are the only one here to put out any decor. A little curious to see how large that bear is you can put a sweater on. You're making me think about the large wooden carvings random around town where I am. (Think a single artisan that always comes out during the UFO Festival to sell their wares is responsible for them.)

The bear is about ten inches tall (it's in a seated position) and about as broad at the base. I've had it for a long time; I picked it up at my local grocery store (of all places) back in '98. IIRC, it was made by the same company that made Beanie Babies, only this one's bigger. It's still in very good condition, since I only bring it out of storage once a year and I keep it out of direct sunlight.

Back in the early 00s one of my then co-workers saw it sitting in my cubicle and wanted to buy the sweater. She said her daughter had recently had a premature baby, and she thought the sweater would actually fit her. I didn't sell it because 1) I didn't want to ruin the bear, and; 2) not being meant to be worn by a person, I was afraid there might be something in the yarn that might hurt the child.

We were discussing the other day. While its still not as big in the UK as the states its become more of a thing over the past couple of decades.

Our local pub has a Halloween party each year, so we might go there, wr haven't been for a while but last time we went as Bill and Sookie.

We are torn though as where we live we get lots of children, with their parents, coming round and we always get sweets in. Its good to see them all dressed up.

All is not well at Quasimodo’s family reunion—-after his loudmouth brother Semimodo (trucker) insulted his sister Bimodo over her blue hair…to the point that he was turned into a frog by Uncle Paramodo—the sorcerer.

With “the Semi” on the DL, Quasi now has to be the Fullback of Notre Dame…since other brother Unimodo has no depth perception and broke every bone playing against the SEC.

That is all.

I love Halloween, it's my birthday. Always put up Halloween decorations each year, and watch a bunch of Halloween movies. It helps to take my mind off the fact that I lost all my friends, my job, and most of my family hates me and wants me dead. Annoyingly they've already started stocking and selling X-Mas decorations here. For crying out loud. Anyway, Halloween is awesome.

Lonely here too. I moved to where I am to help myself mentally. The only thing I escaped was being in a hurricane zone but social-wise it still feels toxic. I'm nowhere close to being around people like myself. The pre-idea I got talking to others before the move to where I am didn't paint an accurate picture of the place. I'm also the black sheep of my family.

Last year was my first year in this town and first time I felt I was in a safe enough place to spread my peacock feathers about holiday decor. Back in east Texas and other places I've lived I've always been in areas things get stolen easily. I've always loved Halloween and want to put on the best front for the kids trick-or-treating as possible.

I'd love to see photos of what you've done for the holiday if you have any.

KRAGIMUSJust another AGIMUS drone, still on the loose

There hasn't been anyone coming around my house for tricks or treats. I've lived in this house for 32 years. It is far out in the country. The houses are far apart, most of my neighbors have guard dogs, my house is 500 feet back from the highway, and barely visible from the road. There are no paved places for pedestrians, no street lighting, and the speed limit of 55 miles per hour is more of a suggestion, as most people drive over 65mph, especially at night, including a large number of semi tractor trailers.
