Inhouse-focused LawVu has launched Lens, an AI contract analysis tool that gives lawyers visibility across a company’s ‘entire contract portfolio, surfacing risks and obligations before they become problems’. It’s all part of the New Zealand-based platform’s LegalOS operating system roll-out.
Now, you very likely will say: ‘Hold on, another contract review tool? How is this different?’
Well, it’s good that you asked. The answer is this: Lens analyzes the entire contract portfolio at once. And of course, for some companies this could be quite a lot!
LawVu explained that ‘inhouse teams can ask questions in plain language and get answers grounded in their own contracts, with citations back to source documents.’
They added that there are also plenty of legal ops use cases, as well as compliance and risk assessment uses. Some examples include:
The example about using Lens to help with legal spend is an interesting one in particular, as it could be used to help scope out fixed fees for AI assisted work done by law firms.

Sam Kidd, Co-Founder and CEO of LawVu, commented: ‘Most AI tools in legal only see a small piece of the picture, so they overlook important details or need a human to double-check their work.
‘Lens is different because it works with the structured legal data each customer has built up inside their own LawVu LegalOS, so insights are grounded in their organisation’s own work. It reasons across every contract instead of guessing from scratch. That’s what lets legal see around corners: catching problems before they happen, preventing bottlenecks and lost time or revenue.’
Is this a big deal?
Well, it’s all part of LawVu’s strategy to become a much broader and complete system for inhouse lawyers, offering a range of capabilities that connect to regular legal work, legal ops needs, contract management in general, compliance, and more.
As with several other legal AI companies, the strategic goal now for many is to become ‘the centre’ of a lawyer’s work environment, or to achieve ‘centrality’, as AL puts it. And the way you do that is to cover off every major need that you can. Lens thus goes some way to achieving this goal.
