Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn are set to meet inside the boxing ring later this year and settle a long-running feud between two families.

The British pair will finally settle their differences at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 26, 30 months on from their first, highly-anticipated fight being cancelled.

Tensions hit a boiling point on Tuesday when they met at a press conference and Eubank Jnr slapped his rival with an egg, before being confronted by Benn's father. 

While family typically don't have a major role in boxing rivalries, that couldn't be further from the truth with the Eubank v Benn feud. 

This is because the rivalry between the British boxing stars stems back to the heated feud between their respective fathers back in 1990s.

Both Chris Eubank Snr and Nigel Benn were stars inside the ring and developed a fierce rivalry between one another over two closely-contested bouts. 

Their first clash, in November 1990, was a brutal affair for the WBO middleweight title, with Eubank Snr stopping Benn in the ninth round. 

The rematch, in October 1993 at Old Trafford, drew a massive global audience and ended in a controversial draw, leaving their rivalry unresolved. 

When Benn and Eubank had their second fight it was watched by 16.5 million on free-to-air television in the UK - as well as the 42,000 fans in attendance at Old Trafford.

The bad blood between the two legends was palpable, marked by intense physical battles and a mutual disdain that lingered long after their careers ended. 

Fast forward to the 21st century, and Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. emerged as professional fighters in their own right. 

Conor, the son of Nigel, carved out a reputation as a hard-hitting welterweight with an unbeaten record, carrying his father's aggressive style and tenacity. 

Eubank Jnr, son of the elder Eubank, established himself as a slick middleweight with a flair for showmanship, echoing his father's charisma.

Though the two have typically fought in different weight classes throughout their respective careers, they have been perennially tipped to meet each other in the ring. 

And, back in 2022, it appeared as though fans would get the match-up they so eagerly desired after a bout between the two was booked in. 

A fight was scheduled for October 8 at The O2 Arena in London, billed as 'Born Rivals' and was set at a catchweight of 157 pounds.

However, the bout was called off 48 hours before the event was set to take place after the former tested positive for the banned substance clomifene.

The British Boxing Board of Control prohibited the fight, citing it as 'not in the interests of boxing,' despite efforts from promoters to push it forward.

Benn initially suggested back in 2022 that his positive tests could have been due to his consumption of too many eggs.

Benn later denied that was the reason for the failed tests as he fought to prove his innocence.

He was finally cleared to fight again in the UK in November by an anti-doping panel -but that didn't stop Eubank Jr taunting Benn about his egg excuse at Tuesday's press conference.

Questioning his rival, Eubank Jr said: 'Conor, I've been meaning to ask you this for a long time, it's interested me. How many eggs did you have to eat to fail those two drugs tests you dirty little omelette?'

Benn shot back: 'The reality is, I've been cleared three times by the NADP, by the WBC, by UKAD, people who are a lot smarter than you. I've been cleared.

'Two, you will never be cleared of being a w*****. You have the IQ of a five-year-old child.'

As they came together at the press conference, Eubank Jr responded to Benn trying to get under his skin by slapping him across the right cheek with an egg.

The shocking moment led to members from both teams rushing on to the stage as a brawl broke out, but security were able to keep Eubank Jr and a seething Benn apart.

After being taken off stage, Benn wrote on X: 'That's the only shot you'll land on me you f****** p****. 2 rounds you are finished @ChrisEubankJr.' 

Reflecting on the bizarre incident, promoter Eddie Hearn said: 'I wasn't overly happy with it to be honest. I never feel like you should lay a hand on a fighter at a press conference. 

'It was always going to be a volatile build-up and it just turned up a notch. Almost to a situation where all bets are off now'.

It marked the latest chapter of the long-running family rivalry - which has also spilled out of the boxing ring amid a bizarre love triangle between the camps. 

Benn's promoter Frank Smith - who is the CEO at Matchroom Boxing - is currently in a long-term relationship with Emily Eubank, sister of Chris Jnr. 

They have been officially dating since November 2016 and regularly post loved-up snaps on Instagram from around the globe since meeting in a bar after Eubank Jr's fight against Tony Jeter in Sheffield in 2015.

Smith once admitted that Emily once called him an 'a**hole' after listening in to one of his phone conversations during the build-up to their initial fight back in 2022. 

'I know the Eubank character from Emily so I know the way they are and I've spent a lot of time with Conor since he's turned pro,' he explained whilst on The George Groves Boxing Club podcast.

'And trying to get the fight over the line was the point where I probably got in the most trouble.

'I had to say things I'd say any other time, but obviously my missus is next door listening to me calling me an a**hole.

'One of the big points was around walking second, blue corner, name on the poster, and I said to Conor - and I stand by this with any fighter that we work with - it's so irrelevant. 

'You never hear of someone losing the fight because their name was the other side of the poster.' 

Smith makes sure to not to discuss business over the phone whilst in the same room as his girlfriend. 

He continued: 'Sometimes I'd say "wait a minute I've just got to leave the room" or be like "right Emily's in the car" so I can't talk yet.

'This is a fight that obviously means so much because of the history, but for me I'm probably a bit too close to it to be honest!'

What started as an inherited rivalry has morphed into a deeply personal clash, driven by pride, resentment, and the shadow of their fathers' battles. 

It's no longer just about who's the better fighter—it's about who can claim the last word in a feud that spans decades.
