An Architecture and Construction major class has opened at South Ural State University in partnership with Chelyabinskgrazhdanproekt Head Planning Institute. Its students are pupils of the tenth form of Multidisciplinary Lyceum No.148.
Training began with an initiation ceremony for the SUSU young constructors. Director of the SUSU Institute of Architecture and Construction Aleksandr Kiianets addressed the pupils:
“Our major-related class is aimed at helping school pupils try their hand in this profession, to become closer to it a little bit. We will do our best to uncover the professions of an architect and constructor to the maximum for you. These are very creative professions. And in addition to your usual school program subjects, we would like for you to slightly immerse yourselves into the real activity of builders. Each one of you will sort of become a builder – maybe not in profession, but in life for sure!”
The new major-related class targets an in-depth study of engineering sciences, as well as major-specific disciplines: fundamentals of architectural composition, technical drawing, architectural construction, and building materials. Training includes mastering of advanced school programme, as well as participation of teaching staff from SUSU and Chelyabinskgrazhdanproekt Head Planning Institute in the educational process, holding of master classes, practical courses, and excursions.
“Opening of Architecture and Construction major-related engineering classes will give school pupils a chance to understand whether this profession is interesting to them or not. On one part, there is much creativity in our profession, and on the other part, it is quite difficult in terms of engineering. That's why our major-related class is a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in real profession already at a young age. In the course of training, the students will learn the fundamentals of architectural composition, basics of technical drawing, architectural construction, and building materials,” stressed Head of the Department of Design and Engineering in Architecture Snezhana Dudysheva.
Engineer of Chelyabinskgrazhdanproekt Head Planning Institute Elena Iudina will act as one of the speakers at the classes for school pupils. Such collaboration will allow the pupils to learn all aspects of the profession of a constructor and shape their own vision of it.
“We are planning to introduce our institute to everyone: hold tours, so that the pupils know what an architect’s work place looks like, what tasks he performs, and how projects are implemented. We will demonstrate real mockups, developments and documents, so that the pupils understand that the profession of an architect is multifaceted and is also related to economics, construction, planning, and development of settlements and cities,” explained Elena Iudina.
This format of major-related training at the university gives children a chance immerse themselves in the profession of an architect already in their tenth form. This will help school pupils not only make an informed choice, but also easier adapt to student life and studying at the university.
Pupil of the tenth form, Aleksandra Mingazheva, shared her impressions from day one at SUSU:
“You can learn many new things about the professions of an architect and constructor at the major-related class. I'm sure that studying here will open the doors to the world of construction for me. I think, it will be easier for me to enrol in SUSU after I learn more about the educational process,”
Practical work with real specialists will help students see how their school-programme knowledge is applied to solving real engineering tasks.
