‘Ireland has played an important role in Squarespace’s growth’, said the company’s Irish head.
Popular website developer Squarespace is pouring €70m in additional investments into Ireland as it looks to the country as a “strategic location” to fuel its growth.
The US company has been in Ireland – operating from Dublin’s Le Pole House on Ship Street Great – since 2013. The fresh funding comes more than a year after it announced plans to hire 120 new Ireland-based workers by 2027.
Squarespace’s platform allows users to engage in e-commerce through a unified portal that helps set up websites, domains, payment mechanisms, marketing and appointment scheduling.
“The Government’s ambition under Digital Ireland is to strengthen our position as a digital leader and a global hub for applied AI innovation, and this commitment is a clear vote of confidence in Ireland’s highly skilled talent base, our vibrant technology ecosystem, and our reputation as a leading location for innovation and global business,” commented Taoiseach Micheál Martin, TD.
“Squarespace’s continued growth in Dublin will support high-value activity and further strengthen Ireland’s position as a hub for digital enterprise.”
Squarespace went private in an acquisition deal with Permira in 2024, after a brief three-year period as a public company in which it struggled to gain share value. Founder Anthony Casalena, and key investors Accel and General Atlantic continue to back the company after the acquisition.
“Ireland has played an important role in Squarespace’s growth for more than a decade,” said Colm MacCarvill, the head of Squarespace Ireland.
“As we look to the next generation of Squarespace, we’re combining our strength in design with AI-powered technology and new commerce capabilities to make it even easier for entrepreneurs to start, manage and grow their businesses. This is a long-term commitment to innovation in Ireland.’’
Donal Travers, the executive director of IDA Ireland, said: “Squarespace’s decision to make a further €70m investment in Ireland is a strong endorsement of the company’s ongoing commitment to this country and of Ireland’s position as a strategic location for high-value, engineering-led growth.
“This investment aligns closely with IDA Ireland’s strategy to attract high-value digital and AI innovation, strengthen Ireland’s technology ecosystem and create long-term opportunities for highly skilled talent. We look forward to continuing to support Squarespace as it expands its operations and further develops its global platform from Ireland.”
