I love traveling, and there’s something about boarding a flight that feels especially hopeful – it’s the embarking on an adventure, big or small, that gets me. Whether it was traveling for work, vacation, overseas or a short hop, I’ve been lucky enough to have spent a decent amount of time on an airplane.

Over the years, I started putting together a little flight kit of a few of my most critical, long-haul flight essentials (in a clear, TSA-friendly bag, obvi) to make flying more comfortable. Because loving the idea of flying isn’t quite the same as loving the actual flight itself. Boarding the plane with a few everyday luxuries tucked into my carry-on has been my coping mechanism for many a miserable flight.

My goal, whenever I fly, is to really take advantage of the flight. Here I am, a lucky girl, way up high in the sky, curled up into (hopefully!) a window seat, with clouds in my coffee (wink), a book on my lap, and some time alllllll to myself*.

*my kids are teenagers – flights with them are now glorious.

My team first learned of my little flight kit when they made me do one of those What’s In My Bag videos. I didn’t go into much detail – my bag was a mess, the kit well-worn at that point – but after they were like ummmm…that KIT?

Fast forward two years, and we’ve refined it down to a set of absolute essentials that help make any flight a much more comfortable experience. Literal years in the making, the TME Flight Kit is useful enough to live in my laptop bag, but special enough to become an in-flight ritual, of sorts.
