NVIDIA today released their 615.78.08 Linux driver build with a useful improvement for gamers using Steam Play (Proton) with Direct3D 12 games via VKD3D-Proton along with a variety of other fixes.
For NVIDIA Linux gamers relying on VKD3D-Proton, the NVIDIA R615 driver update adds support for the VK_NV_low_latency2 revision 3 Vulkan extension. This update improves latency and stutter with VKD3D-Proton, especially when Frame Generation support is enabled.
The NVIDIA 615.78.08 Linux driver also fixes blocky corruption observed in the game The Last of Us Part II, updates the NVIDIA kernel module to address issues in certain SELinux configurations, and enables NVreg_UseKernelSuspendNotifiers=1 by default. The NVreg_UseKernelSuspendNotifiers option is used to let the kernel handle video memory preservation automatically during system sleep and hibernation.
The NVIDIA 615.78.08 Linux driver fixes a failure that can occur when allocating GPU page tables larger than 2GB. There is also a possible crash fix surrounding Vulkan HDR content in conjunction with the Wayland color-management-v1 protocol.
