I set up an IRC server this week. irc.linux.org, port 6697, TLS.

Main channel is #linux.org.

NickServ and ChanServ are both running, so you can lock down your nickname and register your own channels:

/msg NickServ REGISTER <password> <your@email>
/msg ChanServ REGISTER #yourchannel

Once a channel is registered it stays yours, ops and all, even if you're the only one who ever shows up.

If you haven't touched IRC in fifteen years, nothing has changed,. apt install hexchat or apt install irssi, connect, join, type.

Channels are open for the taking. Distro channels, project channels, whatever you want to run. Grab them before somebody else does.

I Never really even used (Or even know how to!) IRC Services before.
Any Tips?

Thanks but I don't think I'll hang on IRC.
I've used it only once on debian channels and found IRC to be really belonging to history and to garage hackers.

As for me, I lack the free time to do any IRC stuff right now.

I realised HexChat went out of matainance a little while ago, an I am looking to switch.

Yep, Hexchat is EOL. Sad.
I tried your IRC server last night, connected and disconnected several times due to testing of my automation tooling, and got kicked out for good (banned by the server). Meanwhile LiberaChat server had no problem with it, I have been on that server for last 1 year or so, 24/7.
I think your server is configured too harshly for connecting/disconnecting peers. I have not tried to log in back again after yesterday, I've only seen 8 nicks there, so..

You can try again, as I got a similar error, But was able to get back into it on Konversation.

I miss Stormbringer dearly.

But as others had stated, Konversation is the way, it similar to nettchat in the best way possible.

hopped on the IRC server and joined #linux.org then started testing out my ChatZilla client.
Training wheels at first, but I'll get the hang of it.

I'm trying to log in but the server keeps closing the TLS / SSL connection. Tried with both Konversation and Hexchat...

OK! I am in now. Had to install KVIrc and once I did, Konversation was working in the background. IDK why.
