ECORSE, Mich. – A mother and her two young daughters were struck by a passing train Sunday evening in Ecorse, police said.

The 32-year-old woman and her children, ages 10 and 4, were hit around 6:30 p.m. Oct. 4, 2026, near Salliotte and Fifth streets.

According to police, the family was trying to cross the railroad tracks where one train had stopped.

That’s when another train passed and struck them, police said.

Ecorse paramedics treated all three victims at the scene before they were taken to Corewell Health.

Police did not release information about their conditions.

Ecorse police Chief Derran E. Shelby urged people to use extreme caution around railroad tracks.

“A stopped train can block your view of another approaching train, and railroad equipment can move unexpectedly,” Shelby said in a statement. “Never climb over, crawl under, or pass between railroad cars.”

Police are investigating the incident.
