In its latest “Privacy on iPhone” ad, Apple goes pretty heavy-handed in its attempt to make Android phones look ancient and ugly.

Posted this evening, Apple’s new iPhone ad is all about privacy via the Safari browser, with Apple depicting online data trackers as actual people looking over your shoulders as you surf the web – with a not-so-subtle “ooh, chrome” joke thrown in as the cherry on top.

In the ad, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is shown in its vibrant and attractive Cosmic Orange colorway, while the Android phones in the ad are, well, laughable. The fictional device shown is thick and boxy with a tiny camera and an awkward-looking selfie camera cutout. It’s not reflective of really any real Android phones, besides maybe those wildly rugged ones – but does anyone actually buy those?

It’s not like this is the first time Apple has depicted Android phones like this – it’s a rather common occurence really. But this is a particularly egregious example. It’s not just a case of using an outdated Android phone to give Android phones a bad look, it’s a case of using a device that simply isn’t reflective of the real world at all.
