A no-nonsense father took matters into his own hands and launched a business forcibly evicting squatters after being frustrated by soft-on-crime eviction policies.

Sanchez Deandre Lewis, known as 'Mikey' around his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland, says he has seen unauthorized occupants ruin people's lives by refusing to leave properties while police do nothing.

A former convict, Lewis said he started a trash removal business to rebuild his life when he was released six years ago, but quickly found that many homes he was hired to clear had unwanted residents inside.

He told WJLA that he rebranded his business as 'Squatter King Removal,' and said he and his team he calls 'the Wolf Pack' go to every length allowed by the law to persuade squatters to leave.

Lewis said: 'Me and my wolves, we go above and beyond to get these houses back.

'Police said we can’t remove somebody, so lawfully, the only thing we can do is what we could do,' he added, saying he tries to make squatters' lives as difficult as possible until they vacate.

The tactics he uses include boarding up windows and entrances to trap the squatters inside, removing doors and locks and relentlessly pressuring unwanted residents to find a legal place to live.

Lewis insisted he only wants to help victims of squatters and that he operates within the law, saying his team never assaults or physically removes a person from a property.

'It's like street justice,' he said.

Lewis and his 'Wolf Pack' team use a variety of unorthodox methods to disrupt squatters, including boarding up windows and doors to make their lives miserable until they leave

Lewis said his business has been booming in recent years, largely because of Maryland's lenient laws that heavily favor squatters over landlords.

Maryland residents say they are frequently told by law enforcement that squatting is a 'civil' matter that they cannot intervene on, even as landlords insist the invader is illegally staying in their home.

This leaves residents forced to rely on slow legal processes to evict, often while the unwanted tenants remain in their properties.

Lewis charges roughly $2,000 to evict a squatter, and has deployed a variety of unorthodox techniques – also including using smoke bombs and bear spray as defensive measures – to get the job done.

The 'Squatter King' added his cost is based on the 'level' of the offenses and said his worst case was responding to over 50 people illegally residing in a building in the Washington DC area.

Lewis started his trash removal service as a way for him to stop drug dealing before it grew into squatter removal instead.

He recalled making $100,000 in his first year and after that he 'didn't touch no drugs no more.'

The father of a five-year-old daughter, Lewis often shares clips to social media showing her helping him clear out homes – alongside separate, more hostile videos of him encountering squatters.

Lewis said he has seen squatters produce fake leases and claim to be legal tenants, and said squatting is an issue that is only getting worse in the area.

'We would get at least 20 cleanouts and only do one,' Lewis told WJLA.

'All these people showing fake leases. The owners not knowing who they is. The property managers not knowing.'

Following backlash over soft-on-crime squatting laws, Maryland Governor Wes Moore signed two pieces of legislation in May that escalated the ability of law enforcement to step in.

The laws establish criminal penalties for intentionally creating, helping create or possessing a counterfeit real-estate lease to defraud another person, and fast-tracking 'wrongful detainer cases.'

However, the laws will not take effect until October.
