After a chance for thunderstorms to start the Labor Day weekend, cooler and pleasant conditions will follow a stretch of humidity.
Friday night was expected to bring the risk of storms, with NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Kevin Jeanes saying heavy rain, gusty winds and potentially frequent lightning are possible after 8 p.m.
The chance of showers continues past midnight before ending at around 5 or 6 a.m.
A few showers will linger until the late morning, however. Beyond that, the rest of the weekend appears to be dry, with brighter skies returning on Saturday afternoon.
Temperatures could climb into the 80s along the lakefront before a lake breeze develops, though it still may feel closer to the upper 90s.
Once the lake breeze moves in, humidity levels will begin to fall, and temperatures will drop into the 70s by the late afternoon.
As the evening progresses, cooler and drier air coming off the lake will continue to move farther south and west. So, it’ll likely feel hot and humid in areas away from the lake.
While feels-like temperatures will sit in the 90s in the afternoon, you’ll notice a big difference by sunset and especially overnight. Jeanes said it will be the coolest night we’ve seen in roughly a week, with temperatures falling into the mid-60s overnight Saturday into Sunday morning.
Sunday afternoon will bring feels-like temperatures in the low 70s by the lake and the upper 70s to low 80s away from the lake.
Bright skies are expected on both Sunday and Labor Day on Monday, with temperatures topping out around 80 degrees on the holiday itself, making for a wonderful finish to the long weekend.
