A missing Montville man was found safe nearly a mile from his home by a Maine Warden Service K-9 team.

Michael McCoy, 46, was reported missing when he failed to return after leaving his house on foot at about 5:45 p.m. Sunday with his two dogs, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife spokesman Mark Latti said in a news release.

One of the dogs returned home without McCoy later that evening, Latti said, and friends and neighbors searched for him and the other dog to no avail.

Warden Service K-9 teams arrived on scene and searched the area in heavy rain and wind, Latti said, and Warden Dory Kulis and her K-9 partner, Lucy, located McCoy and his other dog in a wooded area about three-quarters of a mile from his residence at about 2:10 a.m. on Monday.

McCoy, who was “soaked from the driving rain,” Latti said, was escorted back to the residence but did not require medical treatment.

Maine State Police also assisted in the response.
