Data Primacy and sovereignty have become the accelerated focus of Everpure - here's why

More tools for data governance announced at Everpure Accelerate London.

Three months have passed since Everpure launched its Universal Data Intelligence tool, and in London this week the firm announced a set of updates that it says will help enterprises with the data challenges that we hear are facing enterprise AI programs. Among these challenges is the rising demand for data sovereignty in a disrupted global economy, and Everpure was on hand with research that revealed the scale of the challenge.

New capabilities for Data Primacy, which Everpure describes as the principle of data being the core of enterprise architecture and not applications, were announced. The firm believes this is essential for developing an architecture for AI in the enterprise.

Prakash Darji, General Manager, Data & Digital Experience at Everpure, pitches the updates as a way to eliminate the friction between demand for AI and data not being ready for real-time usage:

By making enterprise data continuously governed, automated, and instantly accessible, we’re giving organizations the foundation to move AI out of the lab and into production with the necessary confidence.

By that, Everpure means that agentic AI deployments are struggling due to data access, so the updates discover, classify, and contextualize data at the source, whether in the Everpure platform, on public cloud services, within SaaS applications, or other storage technologies. Agents and administrators will have direct access to live data without having to develop a custom API.

Among the updates are Model Context Protocol (MCP) native implementation abilities, deployment through the Pure1 console, and privacy management with an ability to see who can access and share a file.

Other updates announced include prompt caching as part of Everpure FlashBlade into the GPU, which the firm describes as pre-stages context and claims is twenty times faster. Updates to data compression and token optimization were also announced. Ashish Gupta, general manager of data management at Everpure, says of the updates:

Data has been in application walled gardens, but AI is changing all of that as it needs to understand the data and the context. UDI sits on top of the Everpure and other data sources so that it discovers the context and identifies the data and its posture, and that’s the magic, as it creates the context, and that is super important to AI. AI will need that for the right type of inference.

Complexity

Field CTO for Everpure Fred Lherault says this will reduce complexity, and that complexity increases risk for his technology leadership peers.

The updates are also aimed at helping digital leaders meet rising data sovereignty demands. Everpure has commissioned research that finds that 88% of C-suite leaders believe a data sovereignty failure could lead to them being shown the door, and 91% say a data sovereignty failure will financially and reputationally damage the business.

CTO for EMEA at Everpure Patrick Smith argues:

We see organizations wanting to get governance right for AI initiatives and often because they have had an AI mishap.

Smith adds that there is recognition of the importance of data governance, but digital leaders are not able to act on it. The research finds that 64% of organizations operate without a formal data sovereignty strategy, which the report and Smith say exposes them in today’s uncertain geopolitical environment:

We live in a politically dynamic world, so everyone has to consider the risk.

The report finds that 85% of surveyed firms are prepared to forego some technology features to improve data sovereignty, and that almost half (40%) are limiting their use of SaaS providers that are reliant on non-domestic infrastructure. While 62% do not have clear visibility of access and controls of their data, and over half (52%) have no plans for data disruption or theft. Part of the problem, the report says, is that data sovereignty is treated as part of routine cybersecurity or compliance measures; something Everpure disagrees with, as International CTO Alex McMullan adds:

Sovereignty is not simply about where data is stored, but having full visibility and control over it through modern data management. Who can access data, which jurisdictions apply, and whether business-critical data or services could be disrupted are key questions every organization should be asking.

Just as security by design has improved application security, Everpure believes data sovereignty should also be by design. Smith adds:

Governance by design means organizations can understand the environment, both the data and the services it supports, so you get a risk-based sovereignty model.

Customers

Two customers at the London event showcase different journeys to becoming Everpure users. For Virgin Media o2, which provides mobile, fixed line, broadband and TV services, it adopted Everpure as part of a move to a new cloud infrastructure to support the containerization, whilst for Beyond. Pl, Europe’s largest AI and managed cloud provider, it means having the technology in place to provide data governance.

Beyond.pl is a tier 4 co-location site in Poland, and in 2025 it launched an AI factory offering, enabling CIOs to get their hands on its NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD estate, which has Everpure FlashBlade data storage and management. CEO Wojciech Stramski speaks mostly to the data sovereignty research when he says he has seen a rising demand from across the European Union:

There are a lot of countries pushing the data sovereignty agenda to protect the traits of a nation; it is an especially big issue in Poland. The risks and the worry is that if the US decides to switch off a service, as well as the pricing factor.

Stamski says the demand by European organizations to be both sovereign and to extract the promised efficiencies of AI is evident too. As a result, the CEO expects there to be a rising demand for inference, but he was stark about the failings of European digital leaders and society to embrace European options before the current geo-political situation arose:

In general, in Europe, we have missed the boat; we are not owners of our own data, as we have used all the US data providers. Europe is catching up in terms of infrastructure build; for example, Poland has an aggressive data center development policy for the next three to five years.

For Virgin Media o2, Everpure technology joined their estate as part of a move away from VMware infrastructure. Tony Hall, Head of Telco Cloud Infrastructure, explains:

We didn’t go looking for a storage partner; we had run an RFX to move from our existing VMware infrastructure, and Red Hat came out first with Everpure as part of that offering.

Virgin Media o2 moved to a Red Hat OpenStack Platform and OpenShift infrastructure in 2023 for its traditional applications, as well as cloud applications and increased adoption of containers. Hall explains that the VMware infrastructure was not end-of-life, but as diginomica has detailed from peers in sectors such as legal and healthcare, the renewal price was, in his words, excessive:

That convinced us to look at the roadmap and what the options were. It accelerated our plans to move to a container environment by a couple of years. We had lost trust in the incumbent provider as, if we had paid the renewal fees, they could do it again.

Moving to containers has enabled greater automation in the technology department of the firm and the new infrastructure has rationalised the number of providers and applications they operate, reducing hand-overs and complexity. Hall adds:

It's not been all plain sailing, but we are getting closer to the goal. The implementation has been going for about 15 months, and we will see a total cost of ownership in 2027 when the migration is complete.

My take

Some interesting enhancements to the toolset from Everpure, and given the geo-politics we are living through and what we hear from our community, data sovereignty is rising up the digital leadership agenda. Will more US vendors join the chorus?
