Ana Montana, the model and partner of NBA star LaMelo Ball, was arrested Monday, Sept. 28, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, on felony prescription fraud charges, according to booking records first reported by TMZ. Montana, whose legal name is Analicia Chaves, has not been convicted, and her attorney has publicly disputed how the allegations are being read.

She faces two felony counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or forgery and two misdemeanor counts of simple possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance. The case is drawing attention because it follows a high-profile year for the couple, who welcomed their first child in January.

The arrest warrant alleges that Montana obtained alprazolam, the generic form of Xanax, from a Walgreens pharmacy on Feb. 21, according to the reports. Authorities claim the prescription was linked to a doctor whose DEA registration number and National Provider Identifier (NPI) had allegedly been stolen or fraudulently obtained.

The warrant was reportedly issued Sept. 22, about seven months after the alleged pharmacy visit. Montana was taken into custody six days later.

Alprazolam is a Schedule IV controlled substance, a federal category for drugs with a recognized medical use and a lower potential for abuse than Schedule I to III drugs. That classification is why the possession counts are misdemeanors, while the fraud counts carry felony weight.

Reports conflict on the amount. Yahoo Sports and The Spun, citing TMZ, said Montana was held on a $20,000 bond tied to the felony charges, while WBTV and Complex reported she was released after posting $10,000. The discrepancy has not been resolved by court records available at the time of writing.

Montana's attorney, Matthew G. Pruden, gave TMZ a statement that shifts the focus of the allegations onto the prescribing doctor. "To clarify, the charges allege that a doctor who used a fraudulent DEA registration and NPI number prescribed Alprazolam for Ms. Chaves, and that she used the prescription written by the doctor to obtain the prescribed Alprazolam at a pharmacy," the lawyer said.

On the possession counts, the attorney added: "The drug possession charges appear to allege that she possessed the aforementioned Alprazolam upon obtaining it from the pharmacy via the prescription written by the doctor."

The statement does not deny that Montana filled the prescription. It frames the case as one in which the alleged fraud was committed by the prescriber, a distinction that will likely matter as the case moves forward. The charges are accusations only and do not establish guilt.

Ana Montana is the professional name of Analicia Chaves, a model and social media personality with a following of about 3 million on Instagram, according to Sports Illustrated. She has also appeared in music videos for artists including T.I. and Rick Ross.

Montana has been linked to Ball since 2021, though the couple did not publicly make the relationship official until June 2023, SI reported. Ball, 25, was the third overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets, won Rookie of the Year, and later became an All-Star. He was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in June 2026.

The couple's son, LaOne, was born in January 2026, and they announced his birth in May. Montana and Ball also launched I Am Fertility, an initiative offering information and support for women going through fertility treatment, along with a HOPE Grant intended to provide financial assistance.

Montana is expected to return to court on Oct. 20, according to reports. No plea has been reported, and neither Montana nor Ball has publicly commented beyond the attorney's statement.
