Qualcomm unveiled its next generation of smartphone silicon at its annual Snapdragon Summit. Moving to an ultra-efficient 2nm process, the company is splitting its latest flagship platform into two distinct tiers: the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.
Both chipsets reportedly combine performance and on-device intelligence with improvements across AI, gaming, camera, and connectivity.
At the top of the stack is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Qualcomm equipped this tier with an updated Oryon CPU that runs 13% faster than the previous generation. Meanwhile, the new Adreno GPU pushes 44% higher performance alongside a 40% improvement in power efficiency.
We think the most critical upgrades are in AI processing, though. The Hexagon NPU is now 35% faster while delivering up to 33% better performance per watt. Even the Sensing Hub, which handles constantly running, low-power AI tasks, gets an 85% performance bump.
Additionally, the Extreme variant unlocks Qualcomm’s most advanced camera capabilities to date. Featuring Intelligent Pixel Control and Advanced Professional Video support, the chip enables 8K video recording at an impressive 60 frames per second, and 4K at up to 240fps. For creators, this translates to high-resolution, silky-smooth slow motion right from a phone.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 are now official
For devices shipping with the standard Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, the performance claims remain highly competitive. This SoC delivers a 10% increase in CPU performance and a 37% gain in CPU power efficiency. Its GPU brings a 35% performance upgrade and matches the Extreme tier’s 40% efficiency gain. The Hexagon NPU on this model is 14% faster, squeezing out up to 20% better performance per watt specifically tuned to handle agentic AI workloads smoothly.
Both SoC’s pack the new Snapdragon X105 5G Modem-RF system, theoretically capable of a staggering 14.8Gbps peak download and 4.2Gbps upload speeds — more than enough bandwidth to pull down 4K movies in seconds. On the local network side, the FastConnect 8800 system introduces Wi-Fi 8 support, hitting speeds over 11Gbps. Factor in native support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth, Ultra-Wideband (UWB), and Thread, and your next mobile device could become a future-proof hub for your entire smart home ecosystem.
As for when you can actually get your hands on these 2nm chips, Xiaomi is leading the pack. The silicon recently debuted on the Xiaomi 18 Pro Series. For those who prefer other brands, expect to see the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 in devices from HONOR, OPPO, REDMI, RedMagic, and other major OEMs in the coming months.
