GENEVA, September 28. /TASS/. The Kiev regime’s attempts to derail elections in Russia failed, proving that Russia's electoral system works even in the toughest conditions, Russian foreign ministry’s ambassador at large, Rodion Miroshnik said.

"The system has withstood and proved its resilience to hostile attacks," he said on the sidelines of the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council. "The very fact of such a large-scale pressure reveals that both Ukraine and its sponsors were keenly interested in breaking down and derailing the electoral process in Russia."

According to the diplomat, Ukraine’s authorities were especially irritated by the parliamentary elections in Russia’s new regions. "Instead of holding elections at home, they focused on hampering voting in Donbass, Crimea, Novorossia," he stated.

He noted that "Kiev began preparing for Russian elections long before they took place," having increased the number of attacks on Russian civilian facilities more than 2.5-fold in the three summer months. "Whereas in May there were slightly more than 14,000 such attacks, or some 480 strikes a day, in August, their number soared to 37,000, or more than 1,250 strikes a day," Miroshnik explained.

"The week of voting was the ‘loudest’ this year, with around 9,000 strikes on civilian facilities being reported in seven days," he said. "During the period of voting, as many as 74 buildings housing election commissions were either damaged or ruined in ten Russian regions, with six members of local election commissions being killed in Ukrainian attacks. Moreover, the entire electronic voting system came under the toughest-ever pressure on voting days. According to the Russian Central Election Commission, the overall number of cyberattacks amounted to 100 million. But the elections did take place against all odds."
