Following the introduction of Proto Man as a playable Mega Man: Dual Override character back in August 2026, the Capcom Spotlight Tokyo Game Show 2026 presentation offered more insights into him and the stage structure of the game. Essentially, he will play differently, offering a new approach. Likewise, the stage execution will work differently than past mainline titles.

While Mega Man is described as “balanced,” Proto Man is considered a close-range character who is stronger for those melee attacks. Both can be equipped with Custom Chips to adjust how they play and their abilities. Over 50 of those, with passive and active effects, will appear. However, while Mega Man gets new weapons for defeating enemies, Proto Man gets new shield-based actions and new abilities instead. Proto Man can also use the powered-up Override form, and gets a new appearance with it just like Mega Man.

The Capcom Spotlight TGS 2026 showcase also went over stage structure. Each one features three parts.

Mega Man: Dual Override is in development for the Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC and will appear in 2027. TGS 2026 runs September 17-21, 2026.
