The hit detective series, The Chelsea Detective, returned to our screens this month with its hotly anticipated fourth season – and it's perfect for Agatha Christie fans. 

Gavin and Stacey actor Adrian Scarborough leads the cast as DI Max Arnold, who has a sharp eye for detail when it comes to his work. Together with DS Layla Walsh, he solves crimes in the affluent and glossy London borough of Chelsea. 

With clever self-contained mysteries, high-society suspects, and a brilliant lead investigator, this charmingly cosy crime drama is a must-watch for Agatha Christie fans. Keep reading to find out more. 

The series follows Max Arnold, a determined detective living on a rundown houseboat in Chelsea, who investigates murder cases in the dark underbelly of London's richest borough. 

In the first series, DI Arnold teamed up with no-nonsense DS Priya Shamsie (Sonita Henry) to solve crimes before being paired with strong-willed detective, DS Layla Walsh (Vanessa Emme), for seasons two and three. 

In the latest season, DI Max Arnold and DS Layla Walsh uncover the deadly secrets and hidden motives behind the most powerful families and elite institutions in Chelsea. 

The synopsis continues: "But as the cases grow darker, so do the personal challenges in their own lives."

The opening episode, Death on the Aether, sees the duo investigate the death of an undercover journalist, whose body is pulled from the Thames. Other cases in the four-part series include a gangland shooting and an architect thrown off a balcony. 

Viewers have showered the series with praise on social media, calling it "superb" and a "classic" detective drama.

One fan wrote: "Love this show, brilliant cast and such a great watch," while another praised the drama as "excellent".

Adrian Scarborough (Killing Eve, Gavin & Stacey) plays the titular Chelsea detective, DI Max Arnold, while Vanessa Emme (Bloodlands, Dublin Murders) portrays his trusty partner DS Layla Walsh.

Meanwhile, Lucy Phelps portrays DC Jess Lombard, alongside Peter Bankolé as DC Connor Pollock, Sophie Stone as Ashley Wilton and Frances Barber as Olivia Arnold. 

The Chelsea Detective is available to stream on U, with new episodes released weekly on Wednesdays. The series is available on Acorn TV in the US.
