The British brand returned to the London Fashion Week runway for its first show in six years, with Kane presenting his debut collection for the house.

And he didn’t just bring back the handbags everyone remembers.

Kane went digging through Mulberry’s history and transformed some of its most recognizable codes into an entire wardrobe. The iconic Bayswater bag influenced leather dresses and silhouettes, while the brand’s countryside heritage even inspired shoes featuring tiny axe-shaped heels.

The collection mixed British uniforms, subcultures, leather and archival references without feeling like Mulberry was simply trying to recreate its 2000s glory days.

And that’s what makes the comeback interesting.

Fashion is currently obsessed with resurrecting old It bags and forgotten brands. But Mulberry isn’t just trying to make the Bayswater cool again.

It wants to become an It brand again.

And after this show, it might actually be working.
