Manchester United's viral fan Frank Ilett has finally met one of the culprits behind his astonishingly long hair: Ruben Amorim. 

Ilett – who is not cutting his hair until United win consecutive matches – came face-to-face with the club's former manager at the Portugal Football Summit.

The supporter, known as 'The United Strand' to his 1.5 million Instagram followers, has not had his locks cut since October 5, 2024. 

And he revealed that Amorim actually apologised for his ordeal after failing to string together a five-game winning streak across his 63 matches in charge. 

'Great to meet Ruben Amorim,' Ilett wrote on Instagram.

'He saw me, pointed to my hair and said "sorry about that!" Still have love for him!'

Amorim is now in charge of AC Milan, who are fifth in Serie A and unbeaten after five games. The Portuguese has come under some scrutiny, though, after an uninspiring pre-season, and a 2-0 defeat by Benfica in the Europa League.  

Ilett, who now lives in Spain and has starred in Paddy Power adverts, insists he is not a millionaire after his stunt. He actually invites supporters to donate to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides free wigs to children or young people who have lost their hair due to cancer or other conditions.  

'I’m definitely not the millionaire that some people think I am,' he told The Sun. 

'There’s been a lot of talk about making millions, but that isn’t the case. It’s not as well paid as some people think. But that’s not why I started it in the first place.

'The real pain has been not being able to see properly. It’s actually lucky that I wear glasses because the frames kind of prop my fringe up a bit. I can hardly see most of the time now. It needs to get gone.'

Last season, Ilett almost had the chance to get his plumage chopped after United strung together four wins – before West Ham held them to a draw in February. 

Ilett live streamed himself watching the game on Kick and his devastation was there for all to see.  

'We go again for the next five,' one of his friends said at full time, as Ilett sat pensively, with a thousand-yard stare, covering his mouth with his fingers. By this point, almost 180,000 people were watching. 

'The longer the better for the charity,' he said, referring to how he will donate his hair to The Little Princess Trust when it gets lopped off. 'I don't want this to be about me.' 

People at United have not been so publicly warm about Ilett. Captain Bruno Fernandes said after a 2-0 win over Tottenham last season: 'I need to look for myself, I don't look at other people. I don't look if they need to go to the hairdresser or not, that is not important for me.'

But Michael Carrick said: 'I can say I'm aware of it, yeah. My kids have made me aware of it, if anything.

'It certainly won't go into the team talk, from a professional level. I can understand what's going on with it and it does make me smile but it won't have an impact ultimately in the end.'
