A little life of crime

It may not satisfy my craving for a guinea pig-based game but Squirrel with a Gun is close enough, I guess. 🐹

The story? A squirrel eats a golden acorn in a secret facility to gain super intelligence and now, it has hordes of agents on its stubby tail. It's a simple story and I don't know what else to say about that so let's move on... v1d30chumz zbcyzbqyzwyztq

After Squirrel with a Gun's intro level, you're put into a neighbourhood with lots of golden acorns that you need to collect but most of them are pretty well-hidden. The very first house you walk into has lava spilled all over the floor for some reason. Maybe the person who lives there really likes hot tubs and took things a bit too far? Who knows? But either way, it's a fun little platforming challenge and the golden acorns in the house are pretty easy to find. 🌋

Meanwhile, the second zone, which is just across the street, is called Cookout Party. This area has 5 golden acorns but personally, I could only reasonably find 2 of them (maybe 3) by exploring the area. I don't want to spoil the game but the last 2 are a bit awful to find without looking up a guide. There was something you were supposed to blow up but I had no idea before reading the guide.

This zone also has a skate park and you can do tricks with your little squirrel-mobile. This should be more fun but unfortunately, the car is overly difficult to manoeuvre so you'll spend most of your time trying to drive in the right direction instead of doing sweet tricks. Anyway, there is a golden acorn located really high in the sky and getting it requires going up a vertical ramp. This one requires mastering the controls more than anything; I fell down many times which was quite frustrating. There's also some guy's house completely fenced-in and there are landmines all over the place. Even after you pick up the bomb suit to protect against land mines, they still knock you really far away and there are way too many of them so I spent minutes just getting knocked around by the ridiculous mines. 💣

I'm a pretty thing with a pretty gun

There are guns in Squirrel with a Gun, of course. You get to pick up a shotgun and shoot up some agents and it's funny to watch agents in black tuxedos whose mission is to eliminate a squirrel. Personally, the novelty wore off after about 30 minutes. There's little in terms of enemy variety so you'll spend hours shooting up the same few foes. Agents wielding pistols or rocket launchers and cowboys in the saloon; that's about it. It also poses little challenge with only 2 bosses and I didn't enjoy the first boss in the slightest.

Squirrel with a Gun also has a few vehicle driving sections that were a bit of fun. Given how dull I found the combat, the driving may be the highlight of the campaign. Also, there are a lot of random outfits and I found it surprisingly funny to mix and match ridiculous outfit pieces. You can turn your squirrel into a snake wearing a football helmet and a ballerina dress, for instance. 👗

I thought I'd enjoy Squirrel with a Gun a bit more. But alas, the game turned out to be a bit of a dud yet it still features fun driving, some interesting puzzles, and fabulous squirrel fashion. 😆
