One of the best offensive seasons in Chicago Cubs history has a new milestone at its center, as Pete Crow-Armstrong achieved an incredible feat Thursday.
Crow-Armstrong, undoubtedly the leading candidate to be the Most Valuable Player in the National League, put a remarkable feather in his cap on Thursday against the Miami Marlins as he stole his 40th base of the season during the contest.
That stolen base has put Crow-Armstrong into the 40-40 club, with 45 home runs and 40 stolen bases in the same season.
No Cubs player has ever hit those milestones in the same campaign, and according to Major League Baseball, Crow-Armstrong is just the seventh player in league history to achieve that feat.
Crow-Armstrong is the third player in recent years to hit that mark, with Shohei Ohtani doing so in the 2024 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Ronald Acuna Jr. doing so in 2023 with the Atlanta Braves, putting up a staggering 73 stolen bases while also hitting 41 home runs.
Crow-Armstrong entered play on Thursday with a substantial advantage over Brice Turang in Wins Above Replacement, leading all of baseball at 9.8 WAR. He is also tied with Kyle Schwarber for the most home runs in MLB with 45 on the season, and he has racked up 354 total bases, which also leads the majors.
His OPS of .949 is second only to Yordan Alvarez in all of baseball, and his 107 RBI’s are the fourth-most in the league, with Alec Burleson leading the way with 112.
