Democrats have grown so unmoored that a majority of them would be happy if a military coup overthrew President Donald Trump and seized control of America . . . to “safeguard the Constitution.”

Yes, a new survey finds their derangement so profound that most Dems say they would welcome the armed forces ending civilian democratic rule — burning the Constitution to “save” it.

And that’s just the appetizer in a five-course meal of despair.

While a third of Democrats would find it “Very Negative” to learn of Trump being assassinated at a rally, another third would view it as “Very” or “Somewhat Positive.”

A full 45% would be elated if they were to wake up and hear the prez “died overnight in his sleep.”

This lunacy is real.

A third of US college students, per Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression polling, think violence is appropriate to silence a campus speech by someone expressing the objectionable views; that view is strongest at such bastions of armed conflict as Smith, Oberlin and Mount Holyoke.

Surveys aren’t the only evidence: Witness the adulation of assassin Luigi Mangione, the cheers for the slaughter of Charlie Kirk.

Democratic pols swoon for far-left broadcaster Hasan Piker, who’s on the record demanding that the streets run red with the blood of landlords, among other bloody trash talk.

Go back to 2020 and the George Floyd riots: Democrats such as Rep. Ayanna Pressley and Speaker Nancy Pelosi fueled the fire by calling for more “unrest” and “uprisings”; Rep. Maxine Waters told the courthouse mob to “get more confrontational” if Derek Chauvin walked on his murder charges.

Disappointment in the incumbent party naturally leads voters to look to the opposition.

But a careful look at this opposition shows a bunch so profoundly illiberal that they can’t see the difference between protecting the republic and destroying it.
